There are many action series on Netflix that offer intense fights outside of the cinema as well. One production does this particularly well and provided MeinMMO editor Nikolas Hernes with some of the best fights he has ever seen. And the best part: In 3 days, it will continue.
Netflix has countless series that premiere or continue every week. When you also consider other streamers like Prime Video, Disney Plus, or HBO Max, you simply can’t watch everything. That’s why I just caught up with Bloodhounds on Netflix a few weeks ago.
And the series impressed me. Not only does it offer the best fight scenes I’ve seen in a long time, actually since the release of John Wick 4 in March 2023, it also hits me on an emotional level.
Coincidentally, with the start of season 2, I have to write about it and just recommend it to you.
Fight Scenes to Melt For
What is Bloodhounds anyway? The Korean series premiered on Netflix in June 2023 and is based on a webtoon. It follows Kim Gun-woo, played by Woo Do-hwan. He trains boxing, and his mother owns a café that unfortunately isn’t doing well. One day, she gets talked into taking out a loan that she can’t pay back.
After loan sharks wreck her café, Gun-woo gets involved and finds himself caught in a major conspiracy, where he has to fight his way out with his new best friend Woo-jin, played by Lee Sang-yi.
First things first: The fight scenes in Bloodhounds are fantastic. The fights are not only powerful and quite brutal for a Ages 16 and up
-rating, but the beautiful choreographies always represent the fighting style of the respective character. This way, a certain personality also shines through in the fights.
I was particularly impressed by the cinematography. While many action scenes in cinema these days are cut together, Bloodhounds often holds longer shots, creating a certain impact. It also feels more authentic because characters engage with jabs (a quick straight punch) first, rather than immediately pulling off superhero moves.
Additionally, no fight feels the same. Sometimes, two people fight against dozens of gangsters with baseball bats, while at other times, two characters engage in a knife fight. Even though firearms are generally not used, creativity shines through with various tools, the scenery, or even vehicles.
Like in a video game, real set pieces emerge between story scenes that moved me, just like in John Wick 4. But Bloodhounds brings another level that makes the fights even more intense.

A Bromance
to Fall in Love With
The emotional anchor of Bloodhounds is the friendship between Gun-woo and Woo-jin. No matter what happens, the two stand by each other, even though they don’t know each other for long. There are relaxed, quiet moments where they grill together or joke around.
This is not only a beautiful contrast to the powerful fight scenes, but the tragic moments become even more effective because of it. I don’t want to spoil too much, but one scene brought me to tears, even though I would have never expected that in such a series. You simply root for the two kind-hearted fighters.
The fight scenes are not only well staged, they also have an emotional depth. It’s not just fists that collide, but convictions. I only know that from animes. Combined with the almost comic-like villains, it creates a story that is not particularly complex, but works quite well as a backdrop for the fights.
Bloodhounds is incredible, yet never so unrealistic that it becomes unbelievable. And the core works better than ever in 2026: Heroes fighting against pure evil to protect innocent people.
When does season 2 start? Season 2 premieres on April 3, 2026, on Netflix, so you have a few days to watch season 1. Otherwise, both seasons will surely be a good pastime for the Easter holidays. You can find more Korean recommendations on Netflix here: 5 Korean Series for Every Action Fan
