Welcome to the MeinMMO format “What we’re playing this weekend.” We will tell you what we are playing during the free days and why you should definitely keep this game on your radar. In this issue, MeinMMO editor Karsten Scholz is looking forward to the first contact with a new MMORPG.
This is what’s on my mind this weekend: Nowadays, it doesn’t happen very often that you can first try out an exciting, new MMORPG. That’s a pity; for long-time genre fans, this is a big part of the fascination. Accordingly, my anticipation is high to be able to play Scars of Honor for the first time this weekend.
From April 30 to May 11, 2026 the first playtest is running on Steam. You can play, among other things, 6 races, 4 classes, the early leveling phase in the Ondall’s Fall region, crafting, a world boss, and various PvP content. Of course, I will tell you how I liked Scars of Honor here on MeinMMO after the playtest.
If you missed the chance to register for the first test round on Steam, I can reassure you: In the coming weeks and months, several more playtests are expected to follow. At the latest by the early access launch (there’s unfortunately no specific date yet), all interested parties will be able to access the servers thanks to the Free2Play model.
Karsten has been following Scars of Honor for several years and was skeptical about whether it would work out. Official videos from the developers reminded him of old fan machinimas for WoW, everything looked like a generic WoW clone and then the Kickstarter also failed. However, over time, the project has turned into one of the most exciting MMORPGs of the foreseeable future.
More than a simple WoW clone
What kind of MMORPG is this? Scars of Honor is the new online role-playing game from Beast Burst Entertainment and has caught my attention early on due to its similarities to World of Warcraft. Under the flags of two warring factions, humans, dwarves, and elves fight against undead and orcs. Humanoid bears, pigs, and demons provide a special flavor.
Among the classes, in addition to exotic options like pirates and mystics, there are many old friends: warriors, mages, assassins (i.e., rogues), druids, paladins, priests, rangers (or hunters), and necromancers (well … warlocks). The graphic style is comparable, as is the theme park approach with quests, dungeons, raids, and PvP.
However, Scars of Honor should be more than just a simple WoW clone. Special features include the extensive talent trees of the classes, which remind of Path of Exile with their more than 240 talents each. Additionally, there are scars that one can earn during the leveling phase. These are perk cards that should affect the play style, and from which one is always presented with a random selection.
Our recommendation: If you are in the mood for a new theme park MMORPG of Western design, which occasionally quite clearly imitates the big role model World of Warcraft, you should keep an eye on Scars of Honor and register for the upcoming playtests on Steam.
Since there is no NDA (non-disclosure agreement) for the playtest, various gameplay impressions from the MMORPG will be online on YouTube and Twitch in the coming days. So keep your eyes open!
