Rhaenyra has finally achieved her great goal in the last episode: She is sitting on the Iron Throne and one of her biggest enemies, Otto Hightower, is also dead.
But that’s just the beginning, because the new queen must no longer only deal with the Greens and their allies; she must also devote herself to new duties at court, as King’s Landing and Westeros must now be led by her.
We will summarize for you after the video what happens after the conquest of the throne.
It is not easy to be a queen
How does Rhaenyra present herself as queen? The episode begins with Daemon meeting Ormund Hightower and his army along with dragons. Daemon wants Alicent’s son Daeron Targaryen. Accompanied by 3 dragons, Ormund does not resist, kneels, and hands over Daeron to him.
Rhaenyra begins her role as queen. Before that, she meets with Daeron, asks him for information about his brothers, but he knows nothing. Daemon tells her that she must kill him, he is a threat to her throne.
Rhaenyra is immediately confronted with problems. The crown’s gold has been taken away, and even with the gold in Dragonstone, it only lasts for a few weeks. No one knows where the money is right now – not even Alicent and Helaena, both of whom are imprisoned. She will only set them free when her sons, the missing Aemond and Aegon, are found and dead.
This also leads to a problem regarding her coronation – if the people are suffering, such a celebration could cause unrest.
The new queen demands tribute from the great houses as a solution. The other problems for the throne are not any better. She still struggles with the death of her son Jace, and she also has to deal with potential allies in the castle.
Additionally, the High Septon refuses to crown Rhaenyra as queen, even though Rhaenyra lies to him that Aegon is dead. The Septon wants to see Aegon’s dead body first. He also expresses his views on dragons, which are supposedly malevolent beings. He warns her not to make faith her enemy.
Her enemies are not defeated
Of course, there are also demands on Rhaenyra from her allies. Lord Corlys asks her to legitimize his two bastards as Velaryons, Alyn should become his heir. She visibly hesitates and does not grant Corlys this request when she has the chance. She does not want to do it so early in her career. A decision that annoys Corlys considerably.
In general, she seems unable to find peace at Driftmark. This is also shown in the people’s concerns. A request arises for the rich to be punished for their behavior during the blockade.
After a discussion, Rhaenyra comes up with the idea of a banquet – but first, she knights Ulf, Hugo, and Addam, and there is also a private conversation between her and Alicent, who reveals to her that she cannot rule without betraying her heart.
At the banquet, she gathers the noble lords of the city. Instead of granting them a lovely feast, she serves them roasted rats and explains that she is clearing their warehouses to take the hoarded provisions for the common folk. In doing so, she also meets Torrhen Manderly, who clearly enjoys Rhaenyra’s actions.
At the end of the episode, she allows Alicent to see Daeron, but as it turns out, it is not her son Daeron at all. He has dyed white hair – he has been deceived by Ormund. To make matters worse, Ormund has also taken Stolperstadt hostage and abducted a small dragon.
Just because she is now sitting on the throne, not all problems are resolved. The allies of the Greens remain active and are trying to overthrow her. The civil war will therefore continue in the next episodes.
