With Season 1, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has received new weapons and thus new opportunities to create secret weapons. One of these secret weapons is the German assault rifle G36. We will show you how to build it and what it can do.
What is the G36? The G36 is the standard issue weapon of the German Bundeswehr, meaning it is the rifle that soldiers carry as part of their standard equipment – at least for now. The weapon comes in various versions. In Modern Warfare, since Season 1, you can build four of them:
- G36 – Standard version
- G36K (for “short”)
- G36C (for “compact”)
- MG36 (MG variant of the G36, basically just a G36 with drum magazine, bipod and a reinforced barrel)
Additionally, you can customize the G36C to replicate the signature weapon of Gaz from Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (the first Modern Warfare). The weapon is known for its versatile use cases.
Note: Since the Holger-26 is already the MG36 without optics, and the bipod cannot be selected, it will not be explained in further detail in this guide.
G36: Attachments at the Gunsmith
How to build the G36: The Holger-26 serves as the base weapon for the G36. The Holger-26 can be obtained for free in the new Battle Pass at Level 15.
This lightweight LMG is already a lighter version of the MG36 in its standard version. To derive the G36 from the Holger-26, you will need the following attachments at the Gunsmith:
- Optic: Solozero K398 4.0x Integral
- Magazine: 30-round magazine
These attachments transform the Holger-26 into an assault rifle with considerable firepower. You gain precision, range, and mobility while having minimal sacrifices in control and a significantly smaller magazine.
How you further modify the weapon is up to you. The G36C and G36K variants already offer several modification options.
How to build the G36K:
- Barrel: XRK Ultra Light
- Optic: FSS Integral Reflex
- Ammunition: 30-round ammunition
How to build the G36C:
- Barrel: FTAC 8.98″ Spitfire
- Stock: FSS Infantry
- Ammunition: 30-round magazine
How to build Gaz’s modified G36C: The operator Gaz also used a G36C as his signature weapon in Modern Warfare. In almost every mission, that was his weapon of choice. His variant consists of simply adding an APX5 Holosight to the G36C.

Pros and Cons of the G36
The advantages of the G36: Essentially, you are much faster with the G36 assault rifle than with the LMG Holger-26. For that alone, it is worth sacrificing the ammunition.
In terms of speed and mobility, the Holger-26 may already be the strongest LMG. The derived G36 is thus also correspondingly fast and even outperforms other assault rifles. It is particularly strong with an optic. However, the best players do without optics – you can find out why here.
The G36 is also extremely precise and deadly at range. The recoil is barely noticeable and easy to control. It is comparable in strength to the M4A1, and may even outshine it.

These are the disadvantages of the G36: The basic G36 is a little stronger than the Holger-26. However, the necessary adjustments come late. Once you modify it further, you will quickly have to make greater sacrifices:
- The Solozero optic is the last available optic and comes at a very advanced weapon level
- The G36K variant has a lower range
- The G36C is less accurate
- Every further modification often has greater disadvantages than advantages
The biggest disadvantage of the G36 is probably that it offers you little room for adjustments. Once it is set up, it is practically as good as it can get.
How do I use the G36? If you want to play with the G36, you should adopt a more tactical and planning play style. You rather play for objectives, cautiously and proactively, and less recklessly.
It is especially suitable for medium-sized, objective-based multiplayer modes. The YouTuber TheKoreanSavage has already shown the G36 in action, even requesting a tactical nuke – the reward for a 30 kill streak:

Conclusion: Is the G36 worth it?
Definitely: Yes. Despite some disadvantages, the G36 is a very strong weapon and possibly the new strongest assault rifle. However, to give a definitive answer, it still needs to be tested in action for some time.
Even the base variant Holger-26 can safely be chosen as an alternative to the PKM, making leveling the weapon for the attachments not too much of a struggle.
How good is the G36 compared to the other secret weapons? Compared to other secret weapons in Modern Warfare, the G36 is one of the best secret weapons, possibly even the best. In any case, it stands out as a modified weapon from the MP5K in its category.
