Over-Earth and democracy need you! Yes, you! You are the Helldivers, who are to defend democracyTM and fight against dangerous aliens and space robots on distant planets.
Inspired by the action-comedy Starship Troopers, you play in Helldivers patriotic soldiers who land on alien worlds and combat bug aliens and other enemies with a ton of different weapons – and often die in the process.
In a squad with other players, you fulfill various missions in each mission and need to escape the planet at the end, similar to extraction shooters. An overarching, game-wide campaign indicates the progress that all players have made in the current state of the war.
Helldivers 2 doesn’t take itself too seriously, and you shouldn’t either: The game aims to provide quick and fast entertainment without too much thinking and does that excellently. For those who want to dive a little deeper, the game also tells a story on the side and in which it doesn’t look good for Over-Earth.
