Zhentarim
The Zhentarim may be familiar to players of Baldur’s Gate 3, as you come into contact with them in several quests there. They are also known as the Black Network and represent a power-hungry organization of mercenaries, spies, and spellcasters who want to expand their influence throughout Faerûn.
Rules only apply to them if they are useful, and when in doubt, they prefer to create their own, which they will only adhere to if it provides them with advantages. Ruthlessness is part of daily life for many members: whether false agreements, shady smuggling or massive manipulation, the end almost always justifies the means.
Within the organization, initiative is highly valued, and only those who contribute benefit from their membership. Those who stand out and deliver results rise, regardless of where they come from or where they ultimately want to go.
Thus, the Black Network becomes a springboard for many that promises power, wealth, and influence if one is willing to cast aside their morals or even former friends.
Wealth is considered the key to power among the Zhentarim. Their agents present themselves confidently, wear high-quality gear, and demand well for their reputation as elite fighters. Merchants, nobles, and entire cities often seek their services when protection or military strength is required.
