In Borderlands 3 you can get cute pets at your home base through two quests: Pippie and Hermes. Our author Leya reveals to you which missions those are and how to get the animals.
The background: As I was traveling on the Sanctuary, I suddenly noticed a movement in the corner of my eye. I could hardly believe my eyes when I saw a kind of little mouse sitting there, looking at me with its big, dark bulging eyes.
As I joyfully approached the little visitor, I realized that it could also be petted. When petting it, white hearts immediately appear above its head and it spits out ammunition.
I had never seen the animal before and, of course, had to find out what it was all about. My only clue: Its name is Hermes.
What kind of pets are these?
When I asked about the little creature in our MeinMMO Community Discord, our reader Luneras advised and explained to me that you take the pets home to the base from certain quests.
So far, we know two quests from which you get pets for the Sanctuary.
This is Hermes
Hermes is Ava’s pet. She is a monastery student who you first meet during the main quest “The Coming Storm” on Athenas.

How to get Hermes: Once you have completed the quest “The Coming Storm”, Ava will come with you to the Sanctuary. She will bring Hermes with her, who will happily bounce around the spaceship from then on.
Since this is one of the early main quests, you will automatically encounter Ava.
By the way, you can now take the side mission “Violation of Privacy” from Ava on the Sanctuary. It is recommended that you have reached at least level 17 for this. During the mission, you collect the girl’s personal belongings and learn some background about her and the monastery on Athenas.
This is Pippie
Pippie comes from the tropical planet Eden-6 and is here acting as a kind of truffle pig. However, he resembles more of a small raptor with long floppy ears.

How to get Pippie: You must complete the side quest “Witch’s Brew” on Eden-6. You take the quest from Murl, who has a spy mission for you.
During the quest, you will encounter Pippie, who is busy digging up mushrooms in a cave. However, Pippie is terribly afraid of the dinos in the cave and you must help him so he can keep digging.
Once you have completed the quest, you will encounter Pippie on the Sanctuary from then on. You cannot pet him, but you can see him hopping around.
Here you will find Murl with the quest (marked below) and the cave of Pippie (marked above).
There is one more thing with animals on the Sanctuary: If you take the crew mission “The Kevin Complexity” from Claptrap, you will also encounter animals on the Sanctuary. However, this story is full of horror…
