If you play the online shooter Stalker Online, known locally as Stay Out, you might be affected by a hacking attack. Over a million account data has been stolen and offered for sale.
What has happened? Due to a hacking attack on the online shooter Stalker Online (Stay Out), more than 1.2 million account data has been stolen. The hacker also possesses 136,000 user data from the forum.
The data includes usernames, passwords, email addresses, phone numbers, IP addresses, and residential addresses of the affected players.
Subsequently, the hacker published a threat in the official forum of the online shooter with survival elements. If the developers do not contact within 24 hours, the data would be made publicly available.
Then the hacker offered the data for several hundred Euros in Bitcoin for sale via the dark web.
The data is real
Were the data sold? Cybernews monitors the dark web and regularly checks corresponding markets. This way, they aim to quickly report sales of user data from hacking attacks to initiate appropriate countermeasures promptly.
Cybernews purchased the offered datasets to verify them. After tests, it was confirmed that they indeed contained user data from the online shooter Stalker Online.
Following that, Cybernews contacted the developers and demanded the platform that offered the stolen datasets take them offline. The sale was thus halted. At least on this market. It is unclear whether the hacker might still offer the data somewhere else.
It is also not known whether anyone else besides Cybernews has purchased the data.
What can buyers do with the data? According to Cybernews, buyers can do a few things:
- Fill out credentials to hack players’ accounts on other gaming platforms like Steam
- Demand ransom for players’ game accounts
- Utilize the data from the database to conduct targeted phishing attacks
- Spam the emails and phones of the victims – brutally extorting the passwords of the email addresses
What should players do now? Cybernews advises everyone who plays Stalker Online to change their password immediately. And if this password is still used for other games or websites, it must be changed there as well.
