Now on Steam, you encounter a game that looks just like Battlefield 1942. It uses the same trailers, the same images. But it calls itself something else.
With some new games, you think to yourself, “Hmm, I have seen this before.” Then there are brazen copies where it is undeniable that they are plagiarisms. And then comes the new game Tank Battlegrounds and makes all the other copies look old.
Because on the Steam page, the game is called Tank Battlegrounds. However, the trailer comes from Battlefield 1942. Not in the sense that it was simply recreated in Tank Battlegrounds. No. They simply took the original trailer from BF1942 and cut the logo at the end. Genius!
What has been stolen from Battlefield 1942? Everywhere on the store page of Tank Battlegrounds, there are hints of the copy. Tank Battlegrounds is a “first-person shooter set in World War II.”
You can connect the trailer frame by frame with that of BF 1942. But there is a significant difference in the trailer. The Battlefield logo is missing at the end in Tank Battlegrounds. The video simply ends there.
Even the description apparently comes from BF1942. Because it seems that during the review, they did not look closely enough. It states, “In order to win, Battlefield 1942 pays more attention to teamwork.”
It seems as if they simply worked with “copy” and “paste” and forgot to replace the name of the game.
Who discovered this game? On Reddit, a user posted the news of this rip-off. This game has apparently been available on Steam for a few days. It is set to be released on May 30.
Who is developing it? In the studio designation, you read “自由合伙人”, which according to Google Translate means “Free Partner” in Chinese.
It is well known that such game rip-offs often come from China. Just like Dragon Glory, which clearly copied from WoW.
It was curious with the RPG Closers. They had to explicitly tell their fans: Hey, this is not copied. This is really our Chinese mobile version.
Is everything really copied? As PCGamer reports, the screenshots were apparently taken by the people behind Tank Battlegrounds themselves. But in Battlefield 1942.
It is unclear how this game was able to land on Steam. It is also unknown what exactly will be downloaded when the game is unlocked on May 30.
