Two-time Formula 1 World Champion Max Verstappen shows himself to be a bad loser in the racing game and knocks the second-placed driver off the track. His unsportsmanlike behavior led to his disqualification.
Max Verstappen is also involved in e-sports racing alongside his Formula 1 career, particularly in the online racing simulation iRacing. He is a member of the successful team Redline. He recently participates in an online race with them, loses his good position, and is disqualified due to unsportsmanlike action.
“It’s going to get ugly”
What happened? On July 15, Max Verstappen participates in the Golden Toast GP, a tournament in the car racing simulation iRacing. There, the German e-sports racer Sven-Ole Haase hits the rear of Verstappen’s race car, causing him to collide with a Redline teammate.
When Verstappen returns to the track, the commentator notes: “I believe Max Verstappen is making a statement. It’s going to get ugly.”
Racing games are popular with gamers – F1 2023 is among the top downloads on PlayStation 5 in June.
This is the statement: Verstappen then takes a shortcut, catches up to second-placed Sven-Ole Haase, and knocks him off the track. Both race cars end up off the track, and Haase is thrown out of the match.
“Sven Haase is not Max Verstappen’s best friend after all this,” the second commentator states.

This is the consequence: For a brief moment, Verstappen takes second place on the race list. The two commentators discuss the cause of Verstappen’s reaction and then laughingly state: “Max Verstappen has been disqualified from the race.”
Previously, Sven-Ole Haase had slightly nudged the Formula 1 World Champion to the side. It appears that Verstappen sought revenge and squeezed Haase in the next corner. However, a replay of the scene showed that Verstappen actually intended to dodge (via Dexerto).
Haase interpreted this differently and collided with the back of Verstappen’s race car.
You can watch the replay of the scene in this clip on Twitch.
The mutual pushing and colliding ultimately seemed to cause Verstappen’s reaction. “I’m afraid Verstappen has overreacted terribly,” concludes the commentator.
