Valorant can only be played in the Closed Beta if you receive a Twitch Drop. But how exactly does it work? How long do you have to watch streams and are there any rules regarding this? The developers have finally spoken up and explained the mechanics.
Update (15.04.2020): The rules for Twitch Drops for the Valorant Beta have changed. You can now watch any streamer.
How do you get into the Valorant Beta? The Closed Beta of Valorant, Riot’s 5vs5 tactical shooter, can only be played with an invitation. You can only receive such access in one way: You need to watch a stream of Valorant that offers you Twitch Drops. If you receive such a Drop, you can play the game.
However, how exactly the Drops work and where to get them has been unclear for a long time. Therefore, the developers have finally agreed to write a detailed blog post about it.
These are your chances of getting Twitch Drops and how to get them
What are Twitch Drops? Twitch Drops are rewards that you can earn by watching a stream that has such Drops “enabled”. You can recognize this by a corresponding note in the description of a Twitch channel. To register for Twitch Drops for Valorant, you first need to connect your Twitch and Riot accounts.
How do I connect my Twitch account with Valorant? Simply follow these steps:
- Open Twitch and log in with your account. Then go to the Account Linking page.
- There, you will find Riot Games among other options and click on “Connect”.
Where do I get the Twitch Drops? The Twitch Drops granting access to the Valorant Beta are exclusively available from streamers who have been granted such Drops by Riot Games. You just need to watch the streamers and wait. If you receive a Drop, you will see it in the Twitch notifications at the top right next to your profile picture.
Which streamers are eligible? Here is a selection of streamers who have definitely enabled Drops and are playing Valorant:

What are my chances of getting Twitch Drops? The allocation of Drops happens automatically. You don’t have to do anything except watch the stream. But it’s not enough just to watch for a moment. According to the developers, you must actively watch a stream for at least 2 hours, only then will your Twitch account be placed on the list for Twitch Drop distribution.
Riot employees would regularly go through the list and make random selections who would receive a Drop. Accounts that watch streams longer will be preferred, but there is no 100% guarantee. Only during extreme peak times will the Drops be temporarily disabled.
Furthermore, the developers warn against using bot accounts. They will filter those out. Selling accounts with Beta access is also not allowed and can lead to a ban.
How do I redeem the Twitch Drop? If you have received a Twitch Drop, you don’t have to do anything else but go to the Valorant page and download the client there. You don’t need to enter a code. With the Drop and the linked accounts, the activation should have already happened automatically.
Once the client is downloaded, you can immediately start with Valorant.
