The release of Monster Hunter Wilds is gradually approaching, and the first monsters have already been introduced. The community has its own wishes about which of the already known monsters they want to see again in the new title. However, for some of them, a return is very unlikely.
Which monsters does the community wish for? More and more players are discussing on social media about which of their favorite monsters they want to fight again in Monster Hunter Wilds. Especially on reddit.com, threads are increasingly appearing where this topic is being hotly debated.
Names like Diablos, Jyuratodus, Kushala Daora, or Teostra and Bazelgeuse are mentioned frequently. However, it is noticeable that especially amphibious and swimming monsters like Lagiacrus, Plesioth, or Royal Ludroth are also frequently named. But especially for this type of monster, a spot in Monster Hunter Wilds is unfortunately quite unlikely, as they have one thing in common: they were primarily found in water before.
No comeback despite exploration underwater?
Why is a return unlikely? Monsters like Lagiacrus or Plesioth are known for their insane underwater battles. However, these have not existed in this form since Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, and the developers have increasingly focused on other game elements.
In a dev stream, it was confirmed for Monster Hunter Wilds that there will be underwater areas, but for now, there will be no underwater battles. The reason for this is that it would be like developing a separate game and would therefore cost too many resources. This unfortunately makes a return of the typical water monsters less likely.
In principle, it is possible to incorporate amphibious monsters, such as Royal Ludroth, at least in fights on land. This was also the case in Monster Hunter World, for example. However, it was the underwater battles that made the appeal with monsters like Lagiacrus and Plesioth.
The fact that these two monsters have hardly had any real appearances since the disappearance of underwater battles also argues against a reappearance and for the inseparability of the game element and the water monsters.
Are there counter theories? However, it is still not completely ruled out that these beasts might make a comeback. Particularly for Lagiacrus, some fan theories seem to be gaining traction, suggesting that a return is even likely.
For instance, Reddit user TheBatman110498 is sure that they can identify the monster in the logo of Monster Hunter Wilds:
Another Reddit user, _Gesterr, is convinced that a certain monster will return. He theorizes that hints of a revamped version of the Leviathan skeletons can be found in one of the trailers for Monster Hunter Wilds:
Lagiacrus is also one of the Leviathans and could thus receive another chance to prove itself, perhaps even without epic battles underwater. Other water monsters could also receive an amphibious upgrade or be incorporated in some other way, so a reunion is not entirely off the table.
