In Elden Ring players could use a nasty exploit in PvP that made them absolutely lethal and nearly unassailable. However, since the latest patch 1.03, this trick is no longer possible. But not all users noticed this and regretted it immediately. Find out here on MeinMMO what kind of exploit it was and how the users fared.
What is the situation? Elden Ring offers you a wide range of weapons, skills, and magic. However, what works fine individually can trigger unexpected and completely exaggerated effects in combination.
A particularly notorious combination was the terror of PvP: the “Deathblight” build. Because if you equipped the Shotel of Eklipse and used the spell “Fire’s Deadly Sin”, you were nearly unbeatable in PvP.
Exploiter has a rude awakening during invasion
How does the exploit work? The exploit consisted of the spell generating a flame aura around you, which passively dealt some area damage to the opponents surrounding you. This isn’t too bad in itself, but for cryptic reasons, the flame aura applied a special effect of the weapon.
It has an effect called “Deathblight”, which can stack on the opponent. If enough stacks are present, the opponent dies brutally and very abruptly. With this exploit, this effect mixed with the flame aura, and the passive area damage suddenly also caused Deathblight.
Users of this tactic just had to stand next to the opponent for a few seconds and they were dead. There was also a glitch that prevented some players from ever escaping the gruesome death animation. Only a complete restart of the game was the rescue.
What was nerfed? As nasty as the exploit was, the community was divided on whether it was legitimate to exploit it. After all, Souls games are notorious for utilizing all sorts of bizarre combinations and effects.
With patch 1.03, however, this question was definitively answered. The Deathblight exploit is no longer available. However, not all users of the “trick” apparently noticed this.
What happened to the exploiter? In a popular reddit thread with over 28,000 upvotes (as of March 18, 2022) titled “He didn’t know about the patch, Omega-LUL” you see a player in his underwear with a sword.
Another player is about to enter his world. As soon as the enemy appears, he engulfs himself in flames. A sure sign that he is a user of the Deathblight exploit.
Thus, the enemy confidently rushes towards the player, expecting his imminent and brutal demise. However, instead of obliterating the player with death magic in no time, he only takes a little fire damage.
In return, the reddit user takes out his newly buffed katana “Bloody Streams” and brutally tears apart the cheeky attacker. Thanks to the brutal blood effects of the weapon, it resembles a cathartic slaughter of the exploiter. Accordingly, it is gleefully celebrated by the other users in the thread:
“I wonder how many invasions this idiot has made. How often he died again and again until he realized that this crap no longer works.”
That’s it regarding the nerfed exploit in PvP of Elden Ring. What do you think of the situation? Do you miss the exploit or are you glad that PvP has become a bit fairer again? Let us know in the comments.
Also nerfed, but still cool: The goat skill that lets you roll over everything.
