In the history of Warhammer 40,000 there have been many heroes. One of them was an important psychic in the final battle against the traitor Horus, but today mankind has forgotten him.
Even before the Emperor became the Emperor, he became acquainted with an ancient psychic named Malcador. The title “the Sigillite” was also part of him, as he belonged to an ancient order of the same name.
This order aimed to collect and safeguard the greatest and most powerful artifacts of mankind’s history. While the future God of mankind was just a Terran warrior at the time, it was the Sigillite who advised him to take on the title of Emperor. Malcador thus already knew the man behind the “God” of humanity.
As the confidant and advisor to the most important man of the time, he managed Terra, founded various organizations, and prepared the Inquisition. During the Horus Heresy, Malcador became one of the most important key figures tasked with saving humanity.
Malcador’s sacrifice during the War on Terra
As the Emperor Horus confronted him on his flagship Vengeful Spirit to defeat the traitor, he needed someone on the Golden Throne. Without the power of the throne, Terra would have no psychic shield and would have been overrun by demons and Chaos.
Although Malcador was a very capable psychic with over 6,700 years of experience, he was not as powerful as the Emperor. Both knew that he would not survive on the Golden Throne, yet he took the place to give his ruler more time to defeat the traitor. After this sacrifice, the Emperor granted him the title “the Hero.”
Plagued by physical agony, he reached a new consciousness and was able to see the universe for the first time as the God of humanity did. The Hero provided the armies of mankind with guidance and sent a message to all allies: Ensure the survival of humanity.
His body had mostly decayed when the traitor troops attempted to storm the throne room. Vulkan, the Primarch of the Salamanders, eventually activated the Talisman of the Seven Hammers, which was supposed to destroy Terra and bomb the Warp in the event of the Golden Throne’s failure.
Before Malcador’s spirit could decay, Horus was killed and the broken body of the Emperor was able to take his place on the Throne.
Malcador the Hero was forgotten
Although he was a confidant and close advisor who received the title of Hero from the God-Emperor himself, he is hardly known in the 41st millennium.
Over time, Malcador has become a rather mysterious figure. The tank named after him has also become rare among humans, and many regions are not even aware of him. Even the title “the Hero” has not endured, as in more recent history, Malcador is referred to as “the Sigillite” if he is mentioned at all.
Malcador could actually enter the history of Warhammer 40,000 as a prominent figure, but this term seems to have fallen out of fashion.
