In The Elder Scrolls Online recently hosted the event “The World Plays ESO”. In line with this, the developers have now released statistics, including the number of characters created during the event period.
What was the event about? “The World Plays ESO” was all about showcasing the various facets of the MMORPG. Numerous streamers were involved, and live streams were also conducted by the developers themselves.
Additionally, there was a period during the event in which new players could try ESO for free for a short time. This led to an influx of new players.
The event took place from June 22 to August 19. This timeframe is also the basis for the new statistics from ZeniMax.
What do the numbers from the event show? Particularly interesting is the number of newly created characters. In just 2 months, 1,011,955 were created. An impressive figure.
The most popular class was Sorcerer, and the most popular race was High Elves.
In addition to these figures, there were a number of crazy statistics, including the dungeons visited during this period (over 12 million), the players killed in PvP (2.1 million), and the monsters killed in PvE (over 2.3 billion).
You can find the complete statistics on the official ESO website.
The exact player numbers for ESO remain unknown, but it remains stable on Steam
How many players does ESO have? This cannot be said precisely. At the beginning of 2021, it was reported that there were 18 million created accounts. However, how many of these are actively playing is unknown.
However, based on Steam, it can be seen that player numbers skyrocketed at the beginning of 2020. This is likely due to the lockdowns caused by COVID-19.
In 2021, the numbers did decline somewhat, but they remained significantly above those of 2018 and 2019. For comparison:
- As recently as March 2020, an average of only 14,755 players were playing ESO on Steam. The previous best was 17,569 players in June 2019 (Release of Elsweyr)
- ESO then set a record with 28,467 players in April 2020. Since then, the numbers have fluctuated between 16,956 players (November 2020) and 23,377 players (April 2021)
- The milestone of 20,000 players, which seemed far off until April 2020, was surpassed in 2021 in February, March, April, and June (via Steamcharts).
The Elder Scrolls Online is generally considered to be one of the most interesting and best MMORPGs you can currently play. It is particularly well-suited for players who enjoy playing alone. It’s no surprise that ESO holds the first place on this list:
