In the MMORPG The Elder Scrolls Online, there are recurring events where you receive a bonus on the experience gained. We at MeinMMO show you the best ways to prepare for such events, so you can quickly gain XP.
Which events give you the event buff? The next time you will receive an experience bonus is during the New Year’s Festival in ESO. Like other XP events, the New Year’s Festival repeats annually. Here is a list of the XP events in ESO:
- New Year’s Festival (in December for New Year)
- April Fool’s Festival (in spring on April 1st)
- Anniversary Event (on the anniversary: April 14 each year)
- Witches’ Festival (around Halloween)
How can I best prepare for the XP events? Of course, there are periods when there is no event with experience bonus. This is the ideal time to prepare for the next XP event. For some activities, like crafting master writs, it is even necessary.
Here we present you with a list of the 5 most important preparations for the next XP event.
1. Daily Reward – Log in to the game every day
There is a daily login reward every day. This includes many scrolls that give you an experience bonus. Moreover, these can be combined with the XP buff from the event. So collect as many as possible and save them for the next XP event.
2. Go fishing for perfect roe
When filleting the caught fish, you have a chance to get the item “perfect roe”. You need this material to make the drink “Psijik Ambrosia.” With it, you receive a 50% experience bonus that can be combined with the event bonuses. By the way, you can get the recipe for it in the Guild Store or from crafting dailies. More about that later in the next point.
3. Complete your daily crafting quests
The crafting dailies not only bring good gold and valuable materials but can also yield a master writ upon quest completion, provided you have maxed out the first passive ability of the respective skill line with skill points.
And these are important in light of the XP event. You can also get a recipe fragment for Psijik Ambrosia from the provisioning dailies. If you collect all 7 fragments, you can combine them. The drink gives you a 50% experience bonus.
4. Get the recipe for Aetherial Ambrosia & Aetherial Dust
For writ vouchers or in the Guild Store, you can acquire the recipe “Aetherial Ambrosia.” This drink provides you with a 100% experience bonus and can be combined with the XP buff from events. You need aetherial dust for its preparation. You can find this, as well as the recipe, at the writ voucher merchant or in the guild stores.
5. Save your master writs for the next event
Master writs give a lot of experience points and are relatively easy to do in a short time. However, to ensure you have writs when there’s extra experience available, you need to accumulate some. Just save all the master writs you get from daily crafting quests and store them safely.
If your bank eventually overflows, you can place additional storage chests in your home and put the writs there. You can obtain the storage chests for crowns as well as for writ vouchers. The writ vouchers are a reward for the master writs and the currency with which you can purchase items from the writ voucher merchant.
Bonus Tip: Craft gear with the “Learning” trait
With the “Learning” trait, you receive a bonus on the experience you gain from slain enemies. This means that you only get this XP bonus in combat. Nevertheless, you can also effectively level up your character or champion point level with it.
It makes a difference whether and how far you have upgraded the equipment. Overall, you can increase your experience gained from armor by up to 77% and from weapons by up to 9%. In total, an XP bonus of up to 86% in combat is possible.
Conveniently, this XP bonus can be combined both with the XP buff from an event and with scrolls or potions. You can thus utilize everything simultaneously.
Here you get an overview of the percentage bonus experience depending on the quality or upgrade level of armor and weapons. Jewelry cannot be crafted with the “Learning” trait.
| Quality | Bonus XP: Complete Armor | Bonus XP: Complete Weapons |
| Normal (white) | 49 % | 5 % |
| Fine (green) | 56 % | 6 % |
| Superior (blue) | 63 % | 7 % |
| Epic (purple) | 70 % | 8 % |
| Legendary (gold) | 77 % | 9 % |
Each piece of armor provides the same bonus XP. For weapons, it’s a bit different. While it ultimately balances out, one should still know this. One-handed weapons give exactly half the bonus XP as two-handed weapons, so that it ultimately evens out again.
| Quality | Bonus XP: Per Armor Piece | Bonus XP: Per Weapon (Two-handed) | Bonus XP: Per Weapon (One-handed) |
| Normal (white) | 7.0 % | 5.0 % | 2.5 % |
| Fine (green) | 8.0 % | 6.0 % | 3.0 % |
| Superior (blue) | 9.0 % | 7.0 % | 3.5 % |
| Epic (purple) | 10.0 % | 8.0 % | 4.0 % |
| Legendary (gold) | 11.0 % | 9.0 % | 4.5 % |
Be sure to save your level gear. You can either use the Arsenal system or on PC, also free add-ons like these:
You should wear this gear set during the event while grinding or when doing a daily random dungeon. Also, remember to activate the XP buff from the event and use a potion or scroll beforehand!
