Eragon is being adapted as a series on Disney+ after the 2006 movie disappointed many fans. Everything currently known about the production can be found in this article.
What is Eragon? It is a fantasy book series by American author Christopher Paolini. The first volume was published in 2003 and received three sequels by 2011.
The books tell the story of the Dragon Rider Eragon, who lives in the world of Alagaësia and stands with his dragon Saphira against the evil forces of King Galbatorix.
The books were very successful and, according to USA Today, have sold a total of 35 million copies worldwide.
A movie was released in 2006 that adapted the first part. 124 critics gave it a rating of only 15 % on Rotten Tomatoes, while over 250,000 users rated it 46 %.
Disney+ is giving the source material a second chance and is working on a series. While it has been known since 2022, there is now finally concrete information.
When will the series about Eragon be released? The series is currently in pre-production and is assembling its team. Since the filming has not yet started, a release is realistically expected no earlier than 2027. However, the launch could also be delayed until 2028.

Eragon: Stream and Seasons
Where can you stream Eragon? As soon as the series starts, it will likely be available on the streaming service Disney+.
How many seasons will there be? This is currently unknown. According to Variety, however, the producing studio 20th Television (owned by Disney) has secured the rights to all four books.
Season 1 might depict the events of the first volume, while three more seasons might cover the rest of the story.
Eragon: Plot, Team and Cast
What is the series about? It is expected that the series will closely follow the plot of the books. The official description from Disney is as follows:
“When fate selects an ordinary teenager to become the first Dragon Rider in over a hundred years, he must forge an unbreakable bond with his dragon, master ancient magic, and challenge the mad king who has destroyed the Riders.” (via Variety)
We will once again witness how an ordinary farm boy becomes a hero. Themes such as growing up, loyalty, and friendship will be explored.
Who is in the cast of the series? Eragon is still in the early stages of production. Disney has not yet revealed who will play the roles of Eragon, his mentor Brom, or King Galbatorix.
Who is behind the team of the series? The production is led by both the author of the source material, Christopher Paolini, and Todd Harthan (High Potential). The latter teams up with Todd Helbing (Superman & Lois) as the showrunning duo.
Together with Marc Webb (The Amazing Spider-Man) and Rachel Moore (Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga), they are managing the production of the series.
The fact that the books are being adapted for a new film is partly thanks to the requests from the fan community. Already with the announcement of the production in 2022, author Christopher Paolini wrote on x.com:
