In Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree there is a major quest involving the mutilated Igon, the priestess of the Dragon Communion, and the terrible Bayle, the dragon. We will show you how to complete the quest to transform yourself into a dragon.
Where can I find Igon? To start Igon’s quest, you first need to find him. Head to his first meeting point from the Site of Grace “Front of the Castle” and follow the path southeast until you reach the Site of Grace “Waypoint at the Pillar Corridor”.
Once there, you will see a man without legs screaming in pain on the path southwest. That is Igon. Talk to him to start his quest. We will show you step by step everything you need to do to fight against Bayle with Igon, so in the end, you will be richly rewarded.
With our directory, you can jump to the individual steps of the quest. Note that the quest requires another NPC besides Igon. We will list them in the guide.
Defeat the Intruder “Ancient Dragon Man”
After enduring Igon’s screams, you need to follow the path southwest until the intruder “Ancient Dragon Man” confronts you. You will know you are on the right path when you see the headless statues of ancient dragons by the roadside. Once the Dragon Man has confronted you, you just need to deal with him.
Complete the cave “Dragon Pit”
Next, after defeating the intruder, you need to continue following the path until you reach the cave “Dragon Pit”. Fight your way through and defeat the boss of the dungeon. After the “Ancient Dragon Man” is defeated again, you can open the door that the boss was guarding.
Follow the path through the countless dragon statues until you find the Site of Grace “Dragon Pit, Final Station”. Now you need to meet a new NPC.
Find the Altar of Dragon Communion & Dragon Priestess
From the Site of Grace “Dragon Pit, Final Station”, move east until you find the small lake guarded by a dragon. Defeat the dragon. From the lake, turn south and follow the path until you discover a giant dragon carcass and can rest at the Site of Grace “Great Altar of Dragon Communion”.
Stand up from the Site of Grace and talk to the Dragon Priestess who is next to the Altar of Dragon Communion. She will offer you to consume the Dragon Essence, which you should accept. Once you have done that, you will receive the “Blessing of the Ancient Dragon”, a powerful buff that you should use in the fight against Bayle.
If you continue talking to her after the ceremony, she will reveal details about Bayle and Igon that may prove useful. Once you finish the conversation, you need to go dragon hunting again.
Defeat both dragons at the foot of Blade Peak
Teleport to the Site of Grace “Dragon Pit, Final Station” after the conversation with the Dragon Priestess. Once there, ride to the lake and then take the path north that brings you closer to Blade Peak. You will know you are on the right path when you have ridden through a stone monument that looks like a tailbone. Here is the map again for illustration.
Continue following the path up until you reach the Site of Grace “Foot of Blade Peak”. Ride further up until you see two dragons fighting. Defeat both dragons and rest again at a Site of Grace. Now you need to find Igon again.
Find Igon & receive his crooked finger
To find Igon again, you need to return to where the two dragons fought. Follow the path further inside Blade Peak until you find Igon again on the ground. He will want to speak with you. Talk to him until he hands you his crooked finger and asks you to summon him when you face Bayle.
Defeat the boss “Ancient Dragon Senessax”
After chatting with Igon, you need to continue your journey further into Blade Peak. Mount your faithful steed and use the ghostly jump zones to gain more height. Once you have climbed high enough, you will discover the ancient dragon Senessax again in a massive lake. You must defeat him.
To defeat him comfortably, you should attack from a distance. The lake increases the range of his attacks, so it is advisable to take down the dragon with magic. We have, of course, a strong build for your easy mode. Also, use strong spirit ashes like the ash of Dragon Knight Kristoff to distract the dragon. Once you have defeated him, you will receive an Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone and an Ancient Dragon Dark Smithing Stone.
Defeat the dragon “Bayle, the Terrible”
Once you are done with Senessax, you need to continue climbing the mountain until you discover the mist wall to Bayle. Note that Bayle is one of the hardest bosses in the DLC. Even though he attacks without wings and with only one leg, he is quite agile, and his lightning attacks have a large range.
Weapons like the Dragon Hunter Greatsword or magic can deal good damage to Bayle. To summon Igon in the fight, you need to remain in the arena. So enter the mist wall and walk towards Bayle until you see the golden writing on the ground. He will assist you in battle. You can also summon another spirit ash that can also attack Bayle.
After defeating Bayle, you will receive Bayle’s Heart. With this, you can acquire two invocations at the Altar of Dragon Communion.
These include:
- Bayle’s Tyranny (requires 49 arcane energy)
- Bayle’s Flame Blitz (requires 53 arcane energy)
Visit Igon & the Dragon Priestess
Once you have defeated Bayle, you can now visit Igon at the place where he handed you his finger. He can now rest and leaves you his entire armor along with his sound pearl and bow.
After obtaining the items, you can visit the Dragon Priestess. She will be gone, but at the spot where she stood, you will receive the Flowerstone Hammer and the item Priestess Heart. With this heart, you can now transform into the first form of a dragon. Once transformed, your invocations of the Dragon Cult will be increased.
