In June, Shadow of the Erdtree, the long-awaited DLC for Elden Ring, will finally be released. There is now a new trailer that promises us an exciting story.
What kind of trailer is this?
- From Software released a new trailer for “Shadow of the Erdtree” on May 21, 2024, the first expansion of Elden Ring.
- The three-minute trailer reveals more about the story of the DLC and gives us further insight into what to expect in the expansion. The focus is on a new boss named Messmer, who waged a cruel war in the past and ruthlessly tyrannized the Shadow Realm.
- However, we do not have a well-defined understanding of the plot after the trailer. Much is reported about the background, but the story remains largely a mystery – as is typical for Elden Ring.

What exactly is this Erdtree? The Erdtree is the great, golden tree in the world of Elden Ring that you have surely seen. The Erdtree grew through the Elden Ring, and through its golden leaves, people received their grace – a kind of blessing. Those who have lost their grace are called “the tarnished”.
DLC brings a new area, 10 bosses, and new weapon categories
What do we already know about the DLC? Shadow of the Erdtree will be released on June 21, 2024. The standard edition is expected to cost 39.99 euros. However, there is also a Collector’s Edition for 250 euros, which includes an art book and a figure, among other things.
The DLC will include ten new boss opponents as well as eight new weapon categories. You will find these in the new area where the DLC is set: the Shadow Realm of the Erdtree. There, you will discover not only new locations, such as a massive castle or a swamp but also the red-haired boss opponent “Messmer”.
