In our weapon tier list for Elden Ring, the Sword of Night and Flame has been among the best weapons in the game since release. This remains true even after several patches.
This sword might seem a bit intimidating at first glance, as it requires a very special build, which is unattractive for many players. However, this sword has an incredibly strong weapon talent that can easily destroy everything in both PvP and PvE. Even after a nerf in patch 1.03, the weapon continues to impress.
We will tell you how to find the sword and why you shouldn’t write it off even after the patch.
Sword of Night and Flame – Location
Where can I find the weapon? You can find the Sword of Night and Flame in the Caria Manor. This creepy part of the map with disgusting enemies is located in the Liurnia region, directly north of the Raya Lucaria Academy.
- When you enter the Caria Manor through the large gate in the south, keep to the left and make your way forward until you find the grace site “Lower Level of the Estate” in a building after some stairs.
- From here, walk along the wall as marked on this map.
- Run straight from the grace site to the first tower.
- From the first tower, go left (north) to the second tower.
- From the second tower, go right (east), but only halfway.
- At about halfway along the path, you will see large chunks missing on the left side of the path. This indicates where you need to jump.
- If you look down from the broken path on the left, you will see a roof. You need to jump onto this.
- Stay on this roof to the left and jump from the broken part of a wall to the next roof. Don’t accidentally jump straight into the hole!
- Use the ladder at the hole.
- In the room you are now in, you will find a chest containing the sword.

Why is this weapon so good? Similar to the also exceptionally powerful Moonveil Katana, the Sword of Night and Flame is currently the best weapon in Elden Ring for fans – even after a nerf. This is mainly due to the weapon talent, Night & Flame Stance.
With the talent, you adopt a stance from which you can unleash 2 strong spells. Both of these attacks deal massive damage and provide you with powerful melee and ranged attack options:
- A light attack from the stance generates a magical laser beam
- A heavy attack results in a powerful horizontal flame strike
With these two attacks, you have a strong option against both individual enemies and whole groups.
What build do I need for this weapon? For the Sword of Night and Flame, you need a very special build, which is due to the required attributes for the weapon:
- Strength: 12
- Dexterity: 12
- Intelligence: 24
- Faith: 24
If you want to use this powerful sword, you will likely need to adjust your build, which thankfully is very easy with the respec.
