For Elden Ring, there will be a preload for the upcoming DLC “Shadow of the Erdtree” on June 19. Which platforms will benefit from a preload and what else you should know about the release is detailed here.
When will the release start? The Elden Ring: DLC “Shadow of the Erdtree” is set to be released on June 21, 2024, at midnight (00:00 German time). There will also be a preload and day-one patch.
Will there be a preload? The upcoming DLC for Elden Ring “Shadow of the Erdtree” will have an official preload before the release. This will start 2 days before the release and will only be available on PlayStation. Therefore, you can expect an update on June 19 at 00:00 German time. Xbox and PC players will not have a preload.
How large will the preload be? According to the X account “PlaystationSize” (source: x.com), the preload size is 16.502 GB. It is not known whether this is the PS5 or PS4 version. Please note that this is unofficial information. It is possible that the file may end up being larger or smaller.
Release for console and PC – All about the times
The official X account for Elden Ring published a large map of all countries along with the release times for each time zone:
Germany is in the “CEST” zone and has two different release times like other countries. One for console and one for PC. The following times should be noted:
- Console: June 21 at midnight (00:00)
- PC: June 21 at 12 PM
Will there be downtime? This is not entirely clear yet. The official X account for Elden Ring only announces another patch at release, which will roll out on June 20. From 09:00 to 12:00, the servers will be maintained, but it is not known if the multiplayer will be affected. The patch will bring many changes, including “Quality of Life” improvements (source: x.com):
- New items will be marked with exclamation points
- New hair styles
- Adjustments to the summoning pools
On PS5, players will need to download 11.817 GB and on PS4, 13.267 GB.
Will there be queues? In Elden Ring as well as in older Souls games by FromSoftware, there have never been queues. The only problem that might arise would be server instability during coop rounds or PvP matches. However, if you prefer to go solo and want to avoid other players initially, you can play the DLC offline.
