It’s starting: Elden Ring is celebrating its release in Europe and many fans will dive in right at launch. Will you wander the Lands Between alone or with friends?
This is how co-op works: In Elden Ring, you have the choice of exploring the open world of the game alone or together with friends or strangers.
The co-op works through “summons” and you can call up to two other players into your world or join their worlds. Early in the game, you’ll find items that enable co-op. You can set specific passwords for playing with friends.
- You can summon other players for help during tough boss fights like Margit or sections of the game
- You can explore the huge open world or dungeons with your friends
- You can get tips and let more experienced players show you secrets
However, although co-op in Elden Ring can be fun and helpful, it still works suboptimally.
- Only the host of the co-op receives progress in the game
- You cannot directly enter dungeons from the open world. You first need to enter the dungeon and summon your teammates there.
- When a boss is defeated, your co-op partners are sent away automatically
Playing together with friends can thus be somewhat clunky depending on the activity and involves repeated summoning. But will you even use the multiplayer feature?
