In a podcast, journalist Jez Corden spoke tipsily on August 19 about “Odyssey”, the new survival game from WoW developer Blizzard. Corden stated: He had seen gameplay and the game looks fantastic from a first-person perspective. It is a new brand, reminds him of games like Fallout 76 or ARK Survival Evolved, but due to the fairytale atmosphere especially of games like Everwild or Fable.
What is officially known about the game? Very little is known so far:
- On January 25, Blizzard announced a new untitled survival game. It is expected to be released for PC and consoles
- The game is said to take place in a “completely new universe”
- There has been no official information beyond that – from the 2 artworks that Blizzard shared, some details could still be gleaned.
After two and a half hours in the podcast, journalist starts chatting
Where are the new information coming from? Journalist Jez Corden writes for “Windowscentral” and deals a lot with Blizzard.
On August 19, he was in the podcast “The Xbox Two” along with Rand AL_Thor_19. Apparently, Corden had been drinking and about 2 hours and 30 minutes in, he addressed a listener’s question about talking about Blizzard’s new survival game (via youtube).
His co-host tried to rein him in and pointed out that they didn’t want to get in trouble with Blizzard. He feared that a cease and desist letter might arrive and the podcast could disappear from the internet.
But Corden was quick to get going.
The information Corden has apparently relates to gameplay footage that he has seen. By the time he saw it, it was already several months old.
Here’s what Corden says:
- The new game is codenamed “Odyssey”
- The game has a fairytale atmosphere. It reminds him of Everwild or Fable.
- The gameplay he saw showed a first-person perspective – he compared it to survival games like Fallout 76 or ARK: Survival Evolved
- The world would have “a lot of magic” – but there would also be machines
- In the game, players could set up their own shops and build bases
Corden repeatedly emphasized:
“It looks good, it looks damn good – I’m really looking forward to the game. I have no idea when it’s coming out.”
When he was done, he revealed that the class “Death Knights” came to Hearthstone, saying: “This is Blizzard’s roadmap,” while his co-host sighed.
There is no trailer yet for Blizzard’s survival game, but a new mobile game is also on the way:
Rum seemed to be the journalist’s downfall
How does the journalist react? On Twitter, Corden does not comment on what he has leaked there and whether there is trouble with Blizzard, as his co-host suspected.
He explains his slightly tipsy state by saying that he thought “Rum” only had 20% alcohol. However, his drink of choice, Rum “Kraken”, has 40% alcohol. Oops.
