Two years ago, Pearl Abyss presented the first trailer for the open-world game DokeV. After that, things went quiet around the game until gamescom 2021. There, the new trailer of DokeV was one of the highlights. Now the developer shows new gameplay and gives insights into the development.
What is DokeV? This is perhaps the most difficult question to answer regarding the entire game. DokeV is an open-world game where you make monsters your friends and then let them fight.
The concept is quite reminiscent of Pokémon and Temtem, but it has its own charm. The battles are not turn-based but take place in real-time, and your character does more than just stand around.
The focus of the title is supposed to be on exploration and the story. Each Dokebi, as the monsters are called, has its own quest line. If you complete this, the Dokebi becomes your buddy and will fight for you.
The battle against the evil corporation “The Company” and its nasty robots is at the center of the main story of DokeV. However, there is much to discover around the world.
How much multiplayer is in it? DokeV is not meant to be an MMO. Nevertheless, it brings multiplayer aspects in both cooperative and competitive senses. However, how exactly this will look is still not known.
The colorful trailer for DokeV certainly caused a lot of excitement at gamescom 2021. Even the grumpy streamer Asmongold celebrated the game. The trailer already showed some gameplay scenes and conveys well the atmosphere DokeV wants to convey.

Who makes DokeV? It is particularly interesting that DokeV is developed by a studio that usually has little to do with colorful and cute settings. Pearl Abyss is primarily known for the MMORPG Black Desert Online, the MOBA Shadow Arena, or the upcoming shooter Plan 8.
DokeV stands out clearly from the other titles. However, the developers have a clear vision for the game. It is supposed to revolve around one’s own imagination and bring the world with these fantastic elements to the forefront. Since you play a child, it is especially the imagination of a child that is responsible for the colorful aesthetics.
New gameplay and exciting insights into the development
What’s new? A video of about 10 minutes from the Korean channel Subusu News had the opportunity to visit the developers at Pearl Abyss and gather new impressions about DokeV.
The video mainly focuses on the technology used to produce DokeV. The enormous details in the game world are at the center. These are achieved by placing real objects and people in a specially built 3D scanner.
The 3D scanner has 180 cameras that photograph the object and graphically represent it in 3D on a computer. In this way, the world of DokeV shines with really good graphics and is full of details.
Pearl Abyss also relies on motion capturing in the development of the title. To make all of this work well together, a new engine specifically developed for DokeV is used.
What does the gameplay look like? Subusu News shows gameplay scenes that are actually being played in-game for the first time. They come from a developer preview version and were filmed off the screen as direct recording was not possible.
What can be seen is a player character at a harbor. The water makes a particularly good impression here, as it reacts very dynamically. There are several changes in the time of day and weather and their influence on the game world.

The character animations look particularly good, showing the character walking through the city to the harbor. However, the world still seems very empty. But it is a very early game version, so it is to be expected that it will be filled later.
When does DokeV come out? A possible release date has not yet been mentioned by Pearl Abyss. An alpha or beta version of DokeV is currently not in sight either. Therefore, it is unlikely that the title will be released in 2021. However, we are keeping our fingers crossed for 2022.
