Ancient items in Diablo 3 are the highest quality level of an item that you can obtain. We will show you how to unlock them and how to get one for sure each season.
What are Ancient items (Primal Ancients)? This type of items automatically has the highest roll. So if the item has Dexterity, it is not randomly rolled with a “From-To” value, but receives the maximum directly. This is why Ancient items are so sought after, because for Ancient items, you still need rolling luck, which is eliminated in this case.
Ancient items are rarer and better than Ancient items. Here we will show you how to unlock and find them.
Unlock Ancient items – Here’s how
What you need to do: The items cannot drop without preparation. In a season, you first need to successfully complete a Greater Rift level 70 within the time limit. If you accomplish this, Ancient items can start dropping from that point on.
Legendary items can drop as Ancient items. And these have the chance of being an Ancient item. The chances are assumed to be in the lower single digits.
Once unlocked, any legendary item can drop as an Ancient item.
Get a guaranteed Ancient item
How does that work? The first level 70 Greater Rift that you complete in an area* guarantees you the drop of a Primal Ancient. However, the item does not have to be good or fit your build. Many players are unlucky and receive something that they cannot use.
*An area counts here, for example, as a season. Once per season, you receive a guaranteed ancient drop starting from GR70. This works once in Hardcore and once in Softcore. Outside of a season, it also works once in Hardcore and once in Softcore.
Farming Ancient items – Where to find them?
Rifts: With luck, you can get the items in Rifts. Every mob that carries Legendaries as loot has the chance to drop them. Also the portal bosses. In Greater Rifts, only the portal boss can drop items, and here there is also a chance for the Primal Ancients.
Kadala: With luck, you can get the item you need from Kadala in the Ancient variant. However, you need a lot of luck and Blood Shards.
