Diablo 3 Shepherd’s Staff: Farming, Recipe and Materials

What is this item? The Shepherd’s Staff is usually used to open the Rainbow level. There you can unlock a portrait frame among other things.

Since Season 28 of Diablo 3, you need the Shepherd’s Staff for the Altar of Rites. In this brief guide, we’ll show you how to get the item.

How to unlock the Shepherd’s Staff

What you need to do: To obtain the Shepherd’s Staff, you must meet a few prerequisites. We will show you here in the guide the individual steps in writing and below in a gallery. This way, you can be sure you’re searching in the right location.

1. Get a Black Mushroom. You can find it in Act 1 in the Cathedral (Level 1). Look for a room located as an inner corner of two corridors. The black mushroom will be clearly visible growing on the ground. Keep in mind that the mushroom is quite rare, and you may need to start several new games for it.
2. Next, you need Leoric’s Shinbone. You can find it in Leoric’s Manor (Courtyard of Leoric’s Manor). Enter the manor, and right in the first corridor, there are two rooms. Look for a fireplace (in our case, it only spawned in the right room). If you find wood that you can interact with, the shinbone will spawn there.
3. Now let’s buy Wirt’s Bell. To do this, travel to Act 1 into the Hidden Camp. There you will meet the merchant Krümelchen, who will sell you the item Wirt’s Bell for 100,000 gold under “Others”.
4. Next, we grab the Rainbow Water. For this, you need to use the waypoint for the Dahlgur Oasis in Act 2. Here, you must hope to find a merchant at the southern end of the map who can spawn randomly. He will be attacked by enemies. If you help him, he will open a dungeon next to him (it works best if you have the bounty for this mysterious cave in Act 2). In the cave, you might find a mysterious chest, where you can loot the Rainbow Water.
5. The last item is the Chiltar Stone. To get this, travel to Act 3 to the Bridge of Korsikk. The item can drop inside the Caves of Frost. On the map, either the Caves of Frost or the Ice Strike Caves can spawn. If you see the Ice Strike Caves, you can reset the game. The NPC Chiltara, which you find on Level 2 in the Caves of Frost, can drop the Chiltar Stone. However, the chances are not very high.
6. Now we obtain the recipe Plan: Shepherd’s Staff. You can find it in Act 4 at the Silver Tower. There you must defeat Izual, and he will drop the recipe for the Shepherd’s Staff with luck.
7. Once you have everything together, go to the blacksmith with the recipe and teach it to him. Then you can craft the staff with the materials you’ve found.

Keep in mind that you will likely need to grind a lot for the materials. Many of the spawns are very rare and require numerous runs to spawn. Expect to invest a lot of time here.
