In Destiny 2 there is now the new weapon exotic Bastion. To own the unique fusion rifle, you will have to work hard. Read how to solve the mega puzzle and what else you need to do afterwards.
A note: You no longer need to solve the puzzle listed below. It is no longer available. We have only kept it in so that you can see the original scope of the entire quest. The quest itself is now available from Saint-14 in the Tower, with the puzzle having done pioneering work and thus the quest was subsequently unlocked for everyone by the 14th Saint.
So grab the quest from Saint in the Tower and jump directly to the Memento quest in this guide.
At the beginning is the mega puzzle: Some time ago, a secret mission caused a stir in the Destiny universe. As it turned out, it culminated in a massive puzzle that left the community sleepless.
You must solve this puzzle to ultimately obtain the exotic Bastion. It seems that you do not have to go through all 19 previous sequences. If you are not interested in the emblem or lore entries, you can focus on the final code.
To start the task, you visit Osiris on Mercury. He has the quest “Exploration of the Corridors of Time” for you. How it works and what the mysterious symbols mean, we have summarized here for you:
This is how you solve the final puzzle: As with the previous codes, you must take a specific path in the labyrinth. Each exit and every fork is adorned with one of 6 symbols. These symbols are the key to success.
If you have followed the required combination, you will end up in a new area: the time-lost vault. To get there, you need to go through the following 30 symbols in order:
Clovers, diamond, snake, clover, plus, plus, hexagon, hex, hex, plus, diamond, plus, snake, diamond, clover, snake, plus, plus, snake, snake, hex, diamond, clover, plus, diamond, hex, hex, diamond, plus, diamond.
Now it is time to fully concentrate and slavishly follow the path. If you feel uncertain, you can always go back through the corridor you came from. Here you can see which symbol you passed last. Also, if necessary, you can reset your run there.
I recommend using a mobility exotic like the Transversive Steps and a lightweight weapon. You can confidently ignore all enemies and rush through the labyrinth at full speed. Additionally, having a checklist or something similar can be helpful.
Getting the Chronometric Weapon Core: After you’ve experienced your Indiana Jones adventure and done everything right, you will land in a burial chamber. Here you will hear an interesting speech from Saint-14. You will also receive the quest item “Chronometric Weapon Core”.
Visit Saint-14 in the Tower’s hangar with it in tow. The legendary Titan has a new quest in his inventory for you after the conversation. To get closer to the desired exotic, you now need to tackle the task “Memento”.
Memories from Saint-14 in the Memento Quest
Guardians beware: Some Guardians report that there are problems with this quest step. If Saint-14 has no quest for you, it can be helpful to speak to him multiple times.
This method has helped with other NPCs. According to some reports, you should complete the quest with one character. The Guardian who originally traversed the Corridors of Time should complete the following tasks. We will inform you as soon as we know more.
This is how the Memento quest works: The rescued Titan Saint-14 sends you to the Tangled Shore. Here you need to complete some tasks for the dubious Spider. Between each step, you need to visit Spider in his hideout repeatedly.
The Fallen Warlord demands from the Guardians:
- Defeat 5 Fallen Captains or Servitors
- Go to the Lost Sector “Empty Tank” in the area of the Thieves’ Landing. Luckily, it’s only a few steps away from Spider. Here you will encounter a special enemy just before the exit: Aksiniks. Defeat the mini-boss to unlock the next quest step.
Now Spider demands a series of heroic deeds from you throughout the Tangled Shore. Those who were well prepared can skip this step considerably. Your to-do list now includes:
- Complete 8 public events in the Tangled Shore. If you manage to complete the heroic variant of the event, you will receive double progress for it.
- Defeat challenging enemies in the Tangled Shore. This includes bosses and mini-bosses in Lost Sectors, public events, or in patrol areas. Many enemies with an orange health bar also count towards progress.
- Complete 10 bounties from Spider – both his daily bounties and the contracts count. If you lack the required resources for the bounties, you should first tackle the public events. “Ghost Fragments” automatically drop there.
After that, you need to find a grave in the Lost Sector “Trapper’s Cave” in the Fourhorn Gorge in the east. Simply follow the course of the sector until you reach the point where you climb down next to a waterfall. At this point, turn around and examine the blue glow at the waterfall.
This is the final quest step: Now you need to tackle a special version of the strike “The Hollowed Lair”. No worries, the activity has matchmaking and the power level is set to 750.
Play through the strike as usual until you reach the boss room. During the fight with the Fanatic, you will encounter a new enemy. On the left side, the taunt warrior “Reysk” will appear. Do not let him survive and complete the strike.
Once again, Saint-14 wants to speak to you in the Tower. He has no further quest steps for you, but the reward for your efforts!

The exotic reward – Bastion
This is the weapon in question: After the arduous tasks, you finally receive the exotic fusion rifle Bastion. The special thing about it is that Bastion is used in the kinetic slot. All other fusion rifles are elemental.
However, the special features do not end there. Bastion has the following exotic perks:
- Fists of the Saint – Charge to fire three shots of kinetic ammunition
- Breakthrough – A portion of the damage from this weapon bypasses elemental shields.
The exotic also has quite high stability and, with a charge time of 740, is considered to be of medium firing speed. In contrast, the Terror of the Crucible, Jötunn, has a charge time of over 800.

Confusion about Bastion: If you take a look at the roadmap of the ongoing season 9, you will notice a small inconsistency. Bastion was originally planned for January 28. It is questionable whether the community solved the puzzle significantly faster than planned.
An alternative is that Bungie pulled the plug on the 28th and would have revealed the puzzle themselves. However, a bug is unlikely to be the solution to the puzzle, as Bungie employees have already congratulated the community.
Have you already completed the extensive quest and now hold Bastion in your hands? What do you say, is the exotic fusion rifle worth it, or would you have expected something else for the mega puzzle?
