Welcome to the MeinMMO format What we are playing this weekend
. We will tell you what we are playing during the free days and why you should have this game on your radar right now. In this edition, MeinMMO author Johanna presents her new favorite game in the cozy genre and why she didn’t think it was that great at first.
This is what I’m into this weekend: As someone who has clocked over 700 hours in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, the announcement of Pokopia felt like Christmas. A mix of Pokémon and Animal Crossing, perfectly rounded off with the freedom of building like in Minecraft.
The only thing that kept me from playing at release was a lack of Nintendo Switch 2 and the fact that I didn’t have enough money for the console at that moment. However, I was able to save enough for my birthday. My boyfriend then gifted me Pokopia and was punished for it because I didn’t talk to him for the rest of the day, only proudly showing him the Pokémon I discovered in the game.
After a few days of intense gaming – and neglecting my household – I quickly ran out of steam. Because: I had completed the game. I had finished the main story, only a few side activities were left, and thus the freedom to rebuild all areas. But I didn’t want to do that at that time.
Besides gaming, Johanna spends way too much time on Twitch and YouTube, but at least she can write about what she has seen at MeinMMO.
Back to the Beginning
I had put about 45 hours into the game when I decided to delete my save file. My problem was that with every attempt to jump back into Pokopia: I was completely overwhelmed immediately.
All four areas were unlocked, numerous Pokémon were running around without a permanent home, and the boxes were stacked with items I didn’t even know how to use. I started building everywhere, but didn’t finish anything really. Now I don’t know where to go from here.
Perhaps my approach to how I play the game was simply too fast. I wanted to unlock as many things and skills as possible to gain more building options. But now I am in a mess, and I lack the motivation to wade through the chaos I created.
Admittedly, clicking through the many already known dialogues quickly during a hard restart with a fresh save file was somewhat annoying, and why can we still not skip cutscenes? Overall, though, deleting it was the best decision I could have made.
Now I can approach everything calmly from the beginning. I have a manageable number of Pokémon that I can build and set up homes for one by one. Plus, I don’t have to wade through too many items. Because Pokopia doesn’t have a really good storage system. Items that I collect, I now use directly or have them in quantities that don’t fill up all my boxes.
For the next gaming hours, I plan to first finish building the first area before moving on to the next. Although I still have to discover the new areas to unlock skills, that’s okay. Cooking, for example, unlocks food to boost my attacks, which is really super useful.
But I’m trying not to build or manage everything at once anymore. The focus is and remains on one town, and I have finally regained the cozy game feeling and my fun.
Our recommendation: If you like Pokémon and Cozy Games, Pokopia is just right for you. However, if you are not that into Pokémon, I can still recommend this game to you. It’s great for any player who wants to escape everyday life into a quiet atmosphere.
By the way: Building calmly while listening to an audiobook is the perfect combination to unwind after a stressful day in the evening! My play hours are still in the double digits, but that can change very quickly for me.
What do you think about Pokopia? Have you played it and perhaps encountered the same problem as I did? Share it in the comments!
The other game I have been playing a lot recently is Enshrouded. Not alone, though, but with my MeinMMO colleague Jasmin Beverungen, who summarized the core of our adventures in an article: After 80 hours in Enshrouded, I still fight my archenemy only from the bed
