In Call of Duty: Warzone, melee attacks seem to currently outweigh many firearms. A pro is also feeling this firsthand and is left defenseless and speechless.
What’s going on with melee? In the Battle Royale Warzone, you have to start almost bare into the combat zone and then gather your deadly arsenal of firearms. But right now, it looks like in many situations it would be better to hit with your guns rather than shoot.
Just 2 hits with the stock are enough to beat a fully armored soldier into the virtual afterlife. MeinMMO takes a look at the powerful melee attack and shows you that even pros are currently suffering from it.
Players complain: “Melee is totally broken in Warzone”
This is a problem: In Verdansk, countless buildings and mysterious bunkers can be entered. In these so-called close-quarter environments, it is currently much more rewarding to hit with weapons than to use an SMG, shotgun, or pistol.
If you can bridge the distance to the enemy or lurk in tight spaces, firearms often come up short.
However, melee damage is not uniform:
- With a knife, you need 2 hits to take down an enemy
- The riot shield requires even 5 hits
- With your fists (unarmed), you also need 5 hits
It seems that only hits with a weapon in hand cause such enormous damage. More and more soldiers are therefore relying on their striking skills with weapons.
Players are increasingly criticizing the melee damage:
Melee is totally broken. This is especially evident in early game / right after the drop. It makes no sense to engage in a shootout when both have pistols. In most cases, you can rush one and go into melee twice before they [the enemy] can fire enough shots to take you down.

Pro experiences powerful melee attacks firsthand
This is what happened: Even pro Seth “Scump” Abner, who is currently making waves in the CoD League, felt firsthand how exaggeratedly strong melee damage is right now.
Despite the pro fighting back by shooting, his opponent rushes towards him and knocks him down with 2 hard hits. Scump then exclaims in disbelief: “Whaaaaaaaat?” repeating it and continuing in amazement: “2 beatdowns?”.
Check out the situation here from both perspectives:
It’s clearly visible in the clip that Scump goes into battle with 3 armor plates fully loaded. In his kill cam, it also confirms that the 2 hits were enough to take him down. The first hit removes 2 armor plates, the second knocks Scump out.
The usually composed veteran can only say “Whaaaat” and finds no other words. With seconds of shaking his head, the scene ultimately ends.

How does melee damage behave in other game areas?
Here’s how it looks in the Gulag: In your fights in the Gulag, 2 melee hits are enough to put the enemy down. However, keep in mind that you also do not enter prison duels fully armored.
Before the controversial weapon changes in the Gulag came, it was even a frequently used tactic to take the opponent down with melee in the small arena.
What about the multiplayer mode? If you hit with your weapon in close combat in the multiplayer mode of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare , 2 hits are required. The same applies to the riot shield. However, if you use a knife, meaning a special melee weapon, one hit is enough to take the opponent down.
What do you think about melee attacks? Do you think the situation is fine because you first need to get into striking range or should Infinity Ward quickly adjust melee damage?
