In Season 1 of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 there is a special mode where you can play with a powerful weapon. Cheaters have smuggled this weapon into the multiplayer – but they suffer more from it now than their opponents.
What kind of weapon is this? With Season 1, a special Free-for-All mode was introduced in CoD: MW3, where players spawn with the Ray Gun. This is a notorious wonder weapon from the zombie mode.
The mode named “Vortex” takes place on three revamped multiplayer maps: Satan’s Quarry, Sporeyard, and Tetanus. You can only obtain and play with the weapon there – at least, that’s how it should be.
Cheaters have found a way to bring the powerful Ray Gun into the normal multiplayer of CoD: MW3. This makes life hell for their opponents in matches – but the developers have found a way to turn the tables.
Players find the action funny but demand harsher consequences
How have the developers turned the tables? The developers seem to have adjusted the weapon in CoD: MW3’s multiplayer so that the damage rebounds to the respective player. On X they write, “Players who gain unauthorized access to the Ray Gun in multiplayer now damage themselves when using it.” (CODUpdates via X)
In a short video on X by the user “txtyy_”, you can see a hostile player shooting with the Ray Gun but taking damage themselves and dying in quick succession:
This could lead to cheaters quickly losing their fun and switching to another weapon. Some users, however, demand harsher consequences for the cheaters.
What does the community say about this? Some users express amusement in their comments under the post by CODUpdates on X. The user “ReinenChaos” writes: “This is really laughable, bravo Sledgehammer Games.” Others comment with laughing emotes or “LOL”.
Additionally, there are some users who call for bans for the cheaters, not just for weapons that reflect damage. The developers should simply prevent such things from happening at all.
One user suggests in the comments to simply add 10,000 of their own deaths to the stats of the cheater for the lousy action – that would annoy them, as the stats are obviously important to these people.
