CoD MW2: Beta – When and how can I participate?
The second beta weekend is online. Here are the dates:
PlayStation dates
– Open Beta 2:
September 22 / 6 PM to September 26 / 7 PM
Xbox/PC dates
– Early Access:
September 22 / 6 PM to September 24 / 7 PM
– Open Beta:
September 24 / 7 PM to September 26 / 7 PM
The open beta starts on Saturday at 7 PM and lasts for 48 hours.
During the ‘open beta’ phases, you can download the beta for free from your respective shops. If you have a pre-order, you either need to redeem the code on your platform or you are already automatically unlocked. Then look for the beta in your respective store.
PS Plus is not necessary, but you need Xbox Live on Microsoft consoles.
The only reliable way is a pre-order. With each version you pre-order, you get exclusive access to the early access phases.
– Here you find all the information about pre-ordering CoD MW2.
However, you can really only get into the beta for the first weekend with a PlayStation. Pre-ordering on Xbox won’t help.
On the second weekend, all supported platforms can play: PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, Steam, and Battle.net launcher.
Keep an eye on the official social media channels of Call of Duty – especially Twitter and Instagram. Shortly before the beta starts, the developers like to give away many codes for participating in early access.
However, many content creators also receive codes to give away. Pay attention to creators who produce a lot of content for Call of Duty.
Otherwise, you can get keys/codes for the beta through the physical edition of Modern Warfare 2. Each CD packaging also provides a key. You can find offers on eBay that promise access for just a few euros. You’ll have to decide for yourself if it’s worth it.
– Here you can redeem the keys on callofduty.com
We have a large special on MeinMMO where we collect all the information about the game: All information about Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.
CoD MW2: Beta – All about download and preload
Where do I download the beta? If you have a digital pre-order, the download is automatically activated for you. On consoles, you can simply search for “modern warfare beta” in the store.
If you have a beta key, you will first need to activate it (www.callofduty.com/betaredeem) and select your desired platform.
On Steam, there is a dedicated Steam page for the beta. Search here for “modern warfare beta” as well.
In the Battle.net launcher, select the game Modern Warfare 2 and on the left side, where it usually says “Download” or “Install”, you will find a small drop-down menu above with the “Game Version” – here you choose the beta.
How large is the download for the beta? The beta is not quite 30 GB on PS4 and PS5, around 35 GB on Xbox consoles, and significantly smaller on PC:
- PS4: 25,305 GB
- PS5: 27,583 GB
- Xbox: 35.4 GB
- Steam: about 17 GB
CoD MW2: Beta – All about content and rewards
What content does the beta offer? Old and new multiplayer modes as well as the large “Ground War” mode will be part of the beta. We list the content for you:
- 32vs32 “Ground War” Map: Sarrif Bay
- New large mode Invasion
- 6vs6 maps
- Valderas Museum (removed)
- Breenbergh Hotel (new)
- Farm 18
- Mercado Las Almas
- 6vs6 modes
- Team Deathmatch
- Domination
- Other known modes
- New: Knock-Out
- New: Prisoner Rescue
Update: The new map Marina Bay Grand Prix was actually announced to be part of the beta. However, the announcement has now been removed by the developers.
The new mode Knock-Out is a fast version of “Search & Destroy” without respawns but with revives. In Prisoner Rescue, one team must rescue a hostage, and respawns are disabled. Invasion supports matches up to 32vs32 and is a kind of team deathmatch including NPCs and respawns.
Besides that, many new gadgets from CoD MW2 are already in the game. These include a deployable camera, an EMP stick for throwing, a “drill charge” (grenade that penetrates walls), and the DDoS – a field upgrade that temporarily disables electronic devices.
The “Vault weapons” can also be tested, and the new gunsmith. You can find details about them here:
Will I keep the beta progress? No, your achievements and statistics from the beta will not carry over to the main game. However, there is a “reward” system for participants.
How do the “rewards” of the beta work? As you level up, there are rewards for the finished game. The beta goes up to level 30 and at many stages, there is a cosmetic reward.
You can also earn the rewards from the first week in the second week, here’s a look at the gifts:
