So far, the MP5 in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War was considered one of the best weapons in multiplayer. However, for many, it was simply too strong. Treyarch responded, the first small balance update after launch now brought the nerf.
What does the new update for CoD Cold War entail? On November 18, there was a small update for the new Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. This brought changes to the currently best weapon in the game – the SMG MP5.

What was the problem with the MP5? The MP5 has been one of the strongest weapons in multiplayer since the launch of Cold War and is noticeably dominating PvP. It is the best weapon of its kind and for many players also the best weapon overall, capable of taking on most assault rifles with ease.
Many found the MP5 too strong. In almost every lobby, its dominance was noticeable. Numerous players demanded an adjustment. And this is what the developers at Treyarch have now implemented.
This is what the update changes specifically for the MP5: The small update adjusts the balance of the MP5. According to Treyarch, the following changes occur:
- The effective damage range (base value, without attachments) has been reduced by 33%
- Specifically, this means: from 15.24 meters at launch to 10.16 meters after the update
- The initial recoil has also been adjusted according to the tweet. However, the developers do not elaborate further. And the in-game stats currently show no visible differences in this regard.
Did anything else change with the update? No. As Treyarch Lead Game Designer Tony Flame later clarified on Twitter, the focus of the small update was solely on one weapon – the MP5.
A larger balancing update for weapons is expected to come with the start of Season 1 of CoD Cold War.
By the way, at that time Black Ops Cold War will also be fully integrated into Warzone. So there will likely be a lot of changes on December 10 for the latest CoD installment and the battle royale.
