However, those who pre-order a digital version can already start the campaign and experience the new adventure surrounding Taskforce 141. The campaigns of Call of Duty are often a fireworks of action and pump a lot of adrenaline into the veins of players. Fans of the multiplayer mode often skip the story – at release, the focus is initially on the shared shooting with friends.
This year, Modern Warfare 2 offers an exciting solution: The campaign went online on October 20 at 7:00 PM. However, the prerequisite is the pre-order of a digital version.

When can I play the campaign of MW2? The campaign is online.
Who has early access to the campaign of MW2? You definitely need a digital pre-order. However, “Early Access” is otherwise available on all supported platforms: PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, Steam, and Battle.net launcher. Here you can find all about pre-ordering and the versions.
What is the size of the download? This depends on your platform. If you are only playing the campaign, you need relatively little space compared to previous CoD data chunks:

CoD MW2: Campaign – Story and Missions
What is the story about? The campaign takes place 3 years after the end of the campaign of CoD MW 2019. The “new” Taskforce 141 has already completed some missions, but their greatest challenge is still ahead of them.
As usual, a web of opaque actions from the villains unfolds throughout the story, and nothing is as it seems.
The terrorist organization Al-Qatala is back, but seems to serve only as a kind of distraction. The story revolves around drugs, a lot of money, and an unknown threat that endangers the prosperity of the world.
What missions are in the game? Through the trailers and a developer presentation, we already know some of the mission designs:
- “Going Dark” mission
- “All Ghillied Up” mission
- Oil rig mission
- High-rise mission
- Mechanic missions
Whether the alternative story with the beloved templates of the old “Modern Warfare” games can keep up remains to be seen. However, all the ingredients are present to tell exciting, new stories while still reconnecting to old stories.
