Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 carries on the legacy of the series’ most successful paid title so far: CoD MW 2019. Settings, characters, gameplay – CoD MW2 does not want to reinvent the wheel, but rather rely on a reliable formula for success while making everything a little bit better.

During the event stream CoD Next on September 15, there was a lot of information about CoD MW2. In addition, Warzone 2.0 and Warzone Mobile were introduced.
Modern Warfare 2: The most important information at a glance

CoD MW2: Release, Developers, Platforms
The release is set for October 28. However, the campaign can be played earlier, with some things becoming available later. On consoles, it starts at midnight, and on PC at 6 AM.
Modern Warfare 2 will be available on both old and new consoles as well as on PC. It will be available for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, on Steam and in the Battle.net launcher.
This depends on your platform. Xbox starts the preload on 19.10., while PlayStation starts on 20.10. On PC, it starts on 26.10. You can find the complete overview of the preload here.
So far, we only know the file size for PC – at release, CoD MW2 will need 72 GB. The figure comes from the system requirements for PC. No specific value is available for consoles yet.
Infinity Ward – the creators of the “Modern Warfare” series are officially taking over the development.
Yes, Modern Warfare continues the feature of its predecessors and connects the available platforms via crossplay.
What else is there to know? Leaks suggest that 2023 will mark the first time in nearly 20 years without a new Call of Duty. For MW2, this means: the biggest CoD could emerge so far. However, the developers have neither confirmed nor denied this topic.
CoD MW2: Pre-order, Editions, and Beta

What editions are available? You can choose between different digital versions or an edition with a CD. The digital versions have the advantage that you get early access to the story campaign.
CoD MW2: Game modes – No Zombies, but “Spec Ops”
What game modes does Modern Warfare 2 offer? As usual, there is a story campaign and a large multiplayer mode. The co-op mode will see “Spec Ops” making a return with PvE missions designed for 2 players.

CoD MW2: Setting and Story

Familiar characters from the MW story are back: Captain Price, Gaz, Ghost, and Soap. But the new characters from CoD MW 2019 may also return – like Farah or Alex, who was initially thought to have heroically sacrificed himself at the end of the story.

CoD MW2: Multiplayer Mode
The multiplayer mode stays true to its predecessors and offers many maps and modes with various team sizes and mission objectives. Leaks promise many maps from earlier CoD games.

Three new modes have already been introduced that will celebrate their premiere in CoD MW2:

Knock-Out is a mix of Cyberattack and Capture the Flag. There is no respawn, but team members can revive you. To win, either a bag of money must be secured or you take out the opposing team.
Prisoner Rescue is also a mode without respawn, similar to Search & Destroy with attackers and defenders. The defenders must protect the prisoners from being extracted by the attackers. The number of rounds won does not count; points are counted for victory.
Invasion, on the other hand, is a massive team deathmatch with up to 32vs32 players on large maps. NPCs will also join in and are meant to create a significant amount of chaos. Variants of “Ground Wars” and the popular 2vs2 gunfights are also back.

Due to leaks, it was long believed that the DMZ mode is the co-op mode of CoD MW2. However, this mode belongs to Warzone 2.0.
In fact, Modern Warfare 2 returns to its roots and brings a Spec Ops mode for 2 players. At launch, 3 missions will be available:
- Low Profile
- Stealth mission where you collect reconnaissance data
- Denied Area
- Vehicle mission where you need to destroy something
- Defender: Mt. Zaya
- Horde mission where more enemies come with each wave
Not all details are known yet, but if it works like in the past, there will be challenging missions where each player has their own task to fulfill and time is unforgiving.
As an example, the developers mentioned a mission where one player completes tasks on the ground while the second player is in an airplane providing support.

However, there is a renewed discussion during the beta, as hardcore players feel that CoD MW2 is again moving more towards casual players.
