Yesterday, a new update for Borderlands 3 was released. The patch brought some bug fixes for minor issues. However, the biggest problem still persists for a while.
What is this patch about? The latest update for Borderlands 3 was released overnight from December 5 to 6. It fixed many minor issues and retired an event:
- The “Bloody Harvest” event has been disabled. However, the Halloween event may continue in 2020.
- Zane and Amara received fixes.
- Inaccessible locations are now truly inaccessible.
- Loot on the Battle Star 3000 will no longer end up in unreachable places.
The Eternal Problem with Guardian Ranks
Of course, it’s good that Borderlands 3 constantly works on bugs. However, the last patch only brought fixes for minor issues. The biggest problem for players was overlooked – the broken Guardian Ranks.
What are Guardian Ranks? You can only unlock the Guardian Ranks in the endgame of Borderlands 3. It’s a progression system that grants you bonus stats and makes your character even stronger.
What is the problem with the Guardian Ranks? With the last update, Mayhem 4 and the Maliwan Takedown raid were introduced. These two new challenges were supposed to provide players with new endgame content.
However, the patch also introduced a significant problem. Players reported after the update that the Guardian Ranks no longer function properly. You still receive some base stats, but all perks of the Guardian Ranks are buggy.
It is, of course, counterproductive when a feature for the endgame fails after the introduction of new content. Accordingly, players reacted annoyed:

The Performance Problem Remains
The biggest annoyance besides the broken Guardian Ranks is still the performance of Borderlands 3. The Maliwan Takedown is really fun new content. However, the fun is lost when the game crashes during boss fights or you lose connection to the server.
Frame rate issues and menu lags continue to cause annoying interruptions. This may not bother every player, but it leaves a sour taste for some in an otherwise cool loot shooter.
The Fix Will Probably Come with the DLC
When will the Guardian Ranks work again? According to the developers, the Guardian Ranks are supposed to be fixed with the next major patch. That will probably not happen until December 19. That’s when the first story DLC will bring Handsome Jack back to screens. You can also already check out some first gameplay.
This also means that the problems with the Guardian Ranks will likely continue for a while. Given the importance of this system for the endgame, this is a significant problem.
