The Borderlands fans are angry that the new title is not immediately available on Steam. The “review-bombing” has at least confirmed the Gearbox CEO.
A few days ago, Gearbox released the Psycho from the dungeon and revealed Borderlands 3. This was accompanied by the announcement that Borderlands 3 would be available exclusively on the Epic Games Store for several months on PC. Fans responded with negative reviews of the predecessors. However, they only confirmed the CEO of Gearbox.
What happened? Following the announcement that Borderlands 3 would not be released on Steam, harsh criticisms of the predecessors flooded Steam. Especially on Borderlands 2, there were hundreds of negative reviews that did not criticize the game itself but the release of the sequel. It is a shame that the Steam fans are left out in the rain this way and forced to use the Epic Games Store now.

This is how the Gearbox CEO reacts: Randy Pitchford from Gearbox reacted rather calmly and explained via Twitter that such a reaction has led him to welcome the publisher’s decision. He stated:
“Ironically, the fact that this abuse [the review-bombing] is possible and that Steam has no interest in correcting it makes me somewhat satisfied with the decision of 2k. And it makes me reconsider Gearbox Publishing’s current stance regarding the platform [Steam].”
Steam filters negative reviews: However, Pitchford also makes a small mistake, as Steam is not completely inactive. Whenever a large number of reviews come in within a very short time that deviate from the general picture, these are excluded from the overall rating and listed separately. Thus, such a “review-bombing” can be marked without deleting the individual reviews.
What do you think about Pitchford’s reaction? Is it a logical reaction from the perspective of the development team? Or is he just pouring oil on the fire of the discussion? Is it important to you on which platform Borderlands 3 is released?
