Celebrity in the Fantasy World of Black Desert
If you give players too much freedom, they will shamelessly exploit it. In Black Desert, guilds have the opportunity to customize their logo quite extensively. Those who want can even import their own images from their PC into the game world and present them as banners, coats of arms, and shields. While most players either design their own cool guild emblem or resort to anime images, there was a rather unusual action on the Orwen server. Several guilds replaced their emblems with images of various celebrities.
The guild “Black” took a portrait of Kanye West and plastered it over various structures and – for everyone to see – also over the world map. Other guilds followed this example and displayed coats of arms of Taylor Swift or Kim Kardashian.
And, as the internet is, it only took one statement in the forum: “No Trump? That is disappointing.” Only a few hours later, images of Donald Trump also appeared in the game world. With such images, one can easily forget whether they are currently in America or the world of Black Desert:
Some players felt disturbed in their immersion by these emblems and logos. For many, the game is a refuge to escape for a few hours from everyday life and politics – they do not want to be confronted with that in the game as well.
The corresponding thread in the official forum has already been closed by Daum, on the grounds that users have no rights to the published images. It is only a matter of time before the logos will disappear from the game world as well.
