After 18 years, Avatar: The Last Airbender is getting a new movie, much to the delight of fans. Unfortunately, it was leaked beforehand and could be watched by anyone. But patient fans like MeinMMO editor Jasmin are now being rewarded.
Why did many see the movie early? It could not have been more beautiful for fans of Avatar: The Last Airbender. Their beloved childhood series was supposed to run in theaters this year in a new form. The film tells the story of the adult versions of Aang, Katara, and the others.
But thanks to a silly mishap and a wrongly addressed email, the entire movie was leaked before its release and could be watched by anyone. This, in turn, resulted in the movie only being released on Paramount+. Fans can no longer watch it in theaters, but only stream it.
One of the two creators of Avatar wrote in an emotional message how hard this whole debacle has been for him and the team behind the film. Personally, I almost cried when reading the message because I can imagine how terrible such an early release must be for the creators when they actually planned a big comeback after 18 years.
In solidarity, I belong to the fans who did not watch the movie beforehand and were patiently waiting for the release in October. For all the patient fans, the team behind the film now has particularly positive news.
Avatar will be available to stream sooner
When will it be released now? With the first trailer, it was announced that the Avatar movie will land on Paramount+ starting July 25, 2026. This is presumably a response to the early release, so that patient fans do not have to wait until October.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the creators reveal once again how dark a day the leak was and how disappointed and frustrated they were. However, they hope that many fans will now enjoy the release on the streaming service.
In this light, my solidarity with the creators has a silver lining. Because I do not have to wait until October to see the movie that some fans have already watched in full. And I have made good use of this time to catch up on the entire series.
Actually, I would have preferred to see the movie in theaters. But I am glad that the film is still coming after all the debacle, and the creators can look positively towards the future.
