In many online games, cheaters are often not far behind when it comes to gaining unfair advantages. The MMORPG Ashes of Creation is no exception, and the developers are now taking radical action against these killjoys.
How have the developers dealt with cheaters? As shown by two lists published by developer Intrepid, the developers have taken action against about 1,000 instances of cheating with extensive bans. The lists show the names, guilds, and servers of the cheaters, as well as the month in which the ban was enforced.
The two content-separated lists relate to bans due to player actions and those that were enacted due to spamming of RMT (Real-Money-Trades) in the last 30 days. All recorded bans are reported to be permanent according to a post on the official Discord server. These lists were also shared in a thread on Reddit.
But that is far from the end, as Game Director Steven Sharif himself confirms.
Nearly 1,000 bans are just the beginning
What’s next? As Game Director Steven Sharif noted in this Reddit thread, the bans on these two “lists of shame” are just the beginning. Four developers are currently busy this week investigating the situation more deeply and continuing to update the list with players who are not adhering to the rules and spoiling the fun for others.
In the official Discord post, it is also mentioned that they are working to explore better solutions and additional tools primarily to tackle bots and those engaging in RMT, but also to address any other violations more efficiently. An in-game reporting system is also in the works, which is expected to find its way into the game later this quarter, allowing you to more easily report irregularities.
Additionally, they are considering whether the lists of shame are the best way to disclose these processes to the player base or if other methods should be found to make this information accessible.
Since Ashes of Creation is still in Early Access and therefore still in development, bots and cheaters currently have a relatively easy time, but the developers show that they are taking the issue seriously and are committed to addressing it. Previously, there had been initial bans against players trying to profit from RMT: Ashes of Creation crushes 80 accounts trying to convert gold into real money using exploits
