In the future, you will be able to tame dinosaurs and battle each other on Nintendo’s console. ARK: Survival Evolved has been officially announced for the Switch.
The dinosaur game ARK: Survival Evolved was one of the major successes of recent years on Steam. The title is still being actively played and developed, and recently there was a beautification of the dinosaurs to bring them visually up to the latest standards. The dinosaurs also made their way to PS4 and Xbox One over time.
In San Francisco, at the Game Developers Conference, the developers from Studio Wildcard announced that ARK is also looking to expand into other realms. So, ARK: Survival Evolved will not only be available on mobile devices in the spring, but will also be ported to another console.
ARK will be released in fall 2018 for the Switch
The goal is the Nintendo Switch. However, the porting will take longer here and the work on it has just begun. ARK: Survival Evolved is planned to be released this fall, sometime between October and December 2018. Whether these plans can be kept remains to be seen – ARK has had issues in the past with meeting deadlines.
The announcement surprised many players, as in the past Jesse Rapczak, the Co-Creative Director behind ARK, had stated that the porting to the Nintendo Switch would require “extremely a lot of work.” Clearly, they see the number of Switch owners as large enough to warrant this effort and to establish themselves on Nintendo’s console.
Will you play ARK on the Nintendo Switch when it comes out? Or should ARK focus on the existing versions to improve performance there?
