It was already clear in advance that ArcheAge Chronicles will be more of a PvE MMORPG. The developers have now answered the question of how much MMORPG can really be expected.
Is it really an MMORPG? As the developers answer in a Q&A on their own Discord server, it would actually be more of an online action role-playing game than a traditional MMORPG. The goal is to create an online world that is an experience both alone and with others.
The team also talks about their own vision:
Our vision is to blur the line between single-player and multiplayer gameplay. We want players to enjoy the game in single-player mode without feeling pressured or disturbed, and at the same time be able to dive into unique MMO experiences such as 20-player raids, group content, and bosses in the open world whenever they want.
During the gameplay test, it was noticeable among players that the title is more of a single-player or co-op role-playing game. This was intended by the developers, as the test was supposed to focus on the single-player friendly version first. The MMO experience was not fully represented.
But this seems not to be the developers’ goal, as the game is supposed to be fully enjoyable alone in a world where the presence of others does not feel unnatural.
The focus is on PvE
What was already known about this? The developers did not make a secret of the fact that the title should be more of a PvE MMORPG, which should also make single players happy. According to an analysis, there would be 60% PvE and 40% PvP content.
The beginning of the game is intended to feel more like a role-playing game for single players. Crafting, lifeskills, and housing are accessible early in the game. Only at the endgame will guilds, world bosses, and raids follow.
