A player is permanently banned in ARC Raiders and swears he has never cheated – however, he plays the shooter with his mouth instead of mouse and keyboard.
What’s up with the player? On Reddit, a desperate gamer reached out to the ARC Raiders community. The player was permanently banned in the extraction shooter by Embark, is disappointed, and doesn’t know what else he can do to get the ban lifted.
The player swears he has never cheated in a game, but he has a suspicion as to why he might have been banned: he is tetraplegic and thus paralyzed in all four limbs.
To work on the computer or play games like ARC Raiders and Fortnite, he uses a so-called Quadstick controller, operated with the mouth by blowing and sucking. He demonstrated the setup with the Quadstick in a short video on YouTube.
Why was he banned? The exact reason for the ban is currently unclear, but all signs point to him being banned for “cheating.” A screenshot he attached to the post mentions a violation of the code of conduct.
The permanent ban occurred according to the ban notification because his account showed multiple offenses. Embark previously stated that serious violations or a number of minor offenses without improvement can lead to permanent bans. He had only recently served a temporary ban that lasted a month and ended on February 23.
But how could this be considered cheating? It is conceivable that the functioning of the Quadstick or associated software was considered a violation by automated detection systems of the anti-cheat system. This has occasionally happened with third-party software in the past.
Also, devices like a Cronus Zen, if he uses something like that for the connection of the Quadstick, could pose a problem. Such devices are considered cheating tools by many developers.
We contacted the player and requested additional information to ideally assist in identifying the cause of the ban.
This is how the community reacts: The player’s post gathered over 20,800 upvotes and nearly 1,800 comments on Reddit. The ARC Raiders community agrees: Embark should take another look at the player’s case and possibly manually lift the ban.
Many users try to help with well-meaning advice and wish him luck. Others comment to gain more attention for the post.
Part of the community also recommends the player to send Embark a picture of his setup in addition to the description of his situation – after all, you never know what excuses rightly banned players might use when they are banned. Some even travel to the developers’ office: ARC Raiders players violate the sacred rule of online gaming, harassing the developers and swearing they are innocent
