Since today, on October 9th, you can finally open the secret Vaults on the new map in Apex Legends. We will tell you how to find the Vault Keys and get the loot.
What are Vaults and Vault Keys? The Vaults are secret treasure rooms scattered across the new map of Season 3, containing tons of high-quality loot (Level 3 and Level 4).
Currently, there are three known Vaults in World’s Edge, all located in the southern part of the map in cave passages. Here is their position on the map:
However, the Vaults are locked. To enter them, you first need a keycard, the Vault Key.
Find Vault Keys and open Vaults
How to find a Vault Key: You can grab the keys from the flying Cargo Bots (another change from Season 3), which transport loot crates across the map. The crates pulse in three colors that indicate the strength of the loot: blue, gold, and purple.
One of the sections of the cargo box can also start glowing red today. If you catch such a box, it means a Vault Key might be inside. To pick it up, you need a free inventory slot.
Finding and opening a Vault: Once you own a Vault Key, you will see locked and open Vaults on the map. Make your way to reach one of the locked Vaults before another team does.
When you arrive there, you need to interact with the door. This has only been possible since today, because previously there was only a countdown waiting there. A few seconds later, the door will open for you. A short clip on reddit shows you exactly how it all looks:
What you need to know about Vaults
What are Vaults good for? The Vaults contain high-quality loot of the highest tier. Anyone who gets a keycard can:
- either further extend their lead as the top team
- or make a comeback from a previously less forgiving round.
From the previous screenshots and videos, it is evident that the contents are limited to “defensive” items, meaning strong backpacks and armor, but no legendary weapons like the L-STAR or Kraber. Nevertheless, the loot should give many teams a strong boost.
What you should watch out for: While the position of the Vaults will be shown to you, they are not secret to teams without a card either. It can happen that some teams specifically wait for players who have a card with them.
Whenever you pass a Vault (whether with or without a card), approach cautiously and secure the area. It is quite possible that campers are lurking there to ambush you. The new Legend Crypto will help you scout very well.
