In Apex Legends the Halloween mode Shadow Royale is playable again since the beginning of the week. The mode has been awaited for a long time, but the developers seem to have bungled the implementation. This frustrates some fans, although they like the mode itself.
What is the Halloween mode? Shadow Royale is the Halloween mode in Apex Legends and it brings an exciting new feature to the game.
Those who die here are reborn as shadows. Shadows can only perform melee attacks. However, they are incredibly fast, can perform double jumps, and even run along walls. Those who know Titanfall know what to expect.
The mode first came into the game in 2020 and was highly anticipated this year as well. However, somehow this year, something went wrong because the developers did not bring the mode in a way that satisfied the fans. This is all the more curious since the mode itself is still well received.
Apex Legends is also soon starting the highly anticipated new Season 11. It will feature the full program, including a new map, a new legend, and a new SMG weapon. It kicks off on November 2, and here you can find a trailer showcasing the coolest features.
Mode arrives too late, too short, and too buggy
What bothers the players? The first major criticism is also one that MeinMMO editor Jürgen Horn noticed at the beginning of October. Because despite being able to spend money on rather boring skins at the beginning of the month, the gameplay mode Shadow Royale only appeared in the last week of October.
Those who, like me, were looking forward to the new mode had to wait. Worse yet, the mode ends after just one week because on November 1, 2021, Season 11 in Apex Legends starts.
To make matters even more annoying, daily challenges had already appeared before the mode’s release, explicitly requiring players to kill opponents in Shadow Royale (via reddit). Great thing when the mode didn’t even exist on that day. For dedicated players who like to complete everything, this is a nuisance.
Even more annoying is that the current challenges only concern the arena mode and not the Shadow Royale mode (via reddit). So, those who want to grind rewards will initially be forced to play a completely different mode. Moreover, the arena mode does not sit well with all fans.
What could be the reason? Overall, it seems that this year’s Halloween event has been somewhat neglected by the developers. It appears that they just wanted to rush the event out because it is Halloween. Neither the skins nor the gameplay mode have really grabbed the fans this year.
It could also be that the 11th Season in Apex Legends starts on November 1, 2021. And that one has a lot to offer! In addition to the obligatory new legend and weapon, there will be the 4th map on which you can let loose.
So, it is quite possible that the internal resources at Respawn were allocated in such a way that the new season is ready for launch, and Halloween got somewhat neglected.
