In early February, the release of Season 12 of the Battle Royale hit Apex Legends is coming. It features a new legend, an additional game mode, and many adjustments to the gameplay, including a brand new mode called ‘Control’. You can find out all the details here on MeinMMO!
When is the release of Season 12? Season 12 of the popular Battle Royale Apex Legends will start on February 8, 2022. The season is titled ‘Defiance’, which means ‘defiance’ or ‘resistance’. The title clearly refers to the rowdy anarcho-rebel Mad Maggie, who will join as a new legend.
The start of the season is expected around 7 p.m. our time.

New game mode, Mad Maggie, and other gameplay changes
Who is the new legend? We now know that it will be Mad Maggie, especially since the fantastic trailer for the new legend was released. We learned about her during Season 8 when the hero Fuse, who hails from Australia, was introduced, as his archenemy Mad Maggie was already known.
The rowdy anarcho-warrior was also a host of a special event, where her harsh and loud remarks drove many players to the edge.
By now, we also know that Maggie will be a very offensive character. She is particularly agile with shotguns and can throw an exploding ball as her ultimate, distributing speed boosters. However, her most-discussed skill is the ‘Ruckus Driller’, which has the potential to break the ‘Gibby Shield Meta’.
What is the new game mode ‘Control’? For the first three weeks of Season 12, there will be a new mode called ‘Control’. It is a version of ‘Domination’, similar to what you know from games like Call of Duty.
You are supposed to capture and hold as many of the three capture points as possible to win after a certain time. There will be infinite respawns, and it will be a battle between 2 teams of 9 players.
With respawns, this mode should be good for newcomers and returning players, as it allows you to try everything out at your own pace.
What new weapon is coming? So far, nothing has been announced about a new weapon. So it may be that there will be no additional gun this time.
However, there are new hop-ups, which are weapon upgrades. These include the “Kinetic Feeder” for the shotgun Peacekeeper and the sniper Triple Take. This upgrade allows the weapon to reload automatically while you slide around. Ideal for the fast, aggressive playstyle of Mad Maggie.
Will there be a new map? There will not be a complete new release here either. However, we know that the popular map Olympus from Season 7 will return. There will also be a few significant changes to the map. What these are is still unclear; however, fans are expecting widespread devastation, as can already be seen in the trailer for Mad Maggie.
What else is changing? As with every season, there will be changes to weapons and legends. It is already known that:
- In the weeks after the release of Season 12, there will be three legends given away for free – ideal for all newcomers who do not yet have them!
- The legend Crypto is currently the least popular. The developers announced a buff for him some time ago, which is supposed to make his drone more useful. More is now known about this. Crypto will now use the drone passively and can even stick it to objects. This makes Crypto more versatile and allows him to scout effectively without direct drone control.
- The playstyle of Gibraltar is likely to change due to the counter with Maggie’s Ruckus Driller.
- The trapper Caustic is getting an obvious nerf, as you can now destroy his gas canisters even after they have been triggered.
- The popular weapons Longbow and Flatline will only be available in Season 12 through the replicator, no longer as ground loot.
