In Aion 2 the Halloween season has arrived. MeinMMO editor Alex has dived in for you and somehow expected more. And even so, the event has its weaknesses.
I love autumn and I love Halloween as a festival. The decoration, the atmosphere. It’s just something very special. So I was even more excited when I saw in the patch notes for the latest update of Aion 2 that a Halloween event would also be introduced in the MMORPG.
Of course, after the previous server maintenance, I had to dive straight into the fray and see what the event has to offer.
And honestly, I was disappointed by some points, although one aspect somewhat redeemed the whole thing, which has been part of the game for a while now.
Boring rewards, nice decoration, and the endgame problem
But let’s start from the beginning. First, I looked at the tasks you need to complete for the event currency “Halloween Pumpkin Coin”.
It immediately stands out that about half of the goals cannot be completed by someone who has not yet reached level 45.
So if you want to get to the exclusive rewards as quickly as possible, you should inevitably reach max level quickly. However, the Halloween special chest, which also contains the free skin and is the only truly exciting reward, can only be claimed once per server.
Other exclusive rewards are mainly the candies and cookies that provide you with useful buffs, but nothing more. The free skin that you can earn for 250 coins with the special chest looks more like something from Fortnite than one worthy of a Daeva.
Especially when you compare it to those from the shop, the free skin looks almost ridiculous, but it admittedly has a certain charm. Otherwise, you can secure many items that you can also earn in other ways.
There are no exclusive quests to get you more into the Halloween mood, like in genre colleagues Final Fantasy XIV or Guild Wars 2, or special mounts and backstories that connect the event with the world.
All tasks for the event are connected with activities that are already part of the game and are nothing special, except that they provide the event currency.
What I found very positive is the decoration, especially in the headquarters. It creates a nice atmosphere and also draws attention to something that has always been in the game but has never been used in my presence: a gigantic piano.
Appropriate decoration creates the attention the piano deserves
For some, this may not mean much, but I love it when my teammates use the opportunities in the game to express themselves and entertain others. For example, in Final Fantasy XIV, I have already attended numerous concerts that other players held in the main squares of the capitals.
All the more I was excited that today I passed by several times to reach the event vendor, and couldn’t help but stop because someone was really good at playing the piano. You can find it directly to the left of the warehouse manager and can make music yourself by jumping on the keys.
And every time I passed by, another character used the field, and once I even saw 3 players who were jumping together on a really nice song. The instrument has not received this much attention since the early access at least in my presence.
It is actions like these that for me define the MMORPG feeling and create unforgettable moments.
In any case, I hope that the piano will also catch the attention of more players through its prominent lighting during the event and that talents will emerge to hold concerts so that even more people like me cannot help but stop and listen.
