One of the recent updates in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare seems to have adjusted the aim assist for controllers. This affects not just the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, but also PC. Apparently, certain settings are now too strong.
This is the problem: In one of the recent updates, the developers seem to have changed the settings for aim assist with controllers in the new Call of Duty and presumably also Warzone. This affects all players who prefer to play with this type of input device.
The problem is that the aim assist seems to be too strong now. It slows down aiming near a target so much that players can essentially hit a target while “glancing by.”
It goes so far that they just have to aim with sniper rifles until the camera slows down and then shoot to achieve an almost guaranteed headshot. YouTuber and CoD expert JGOD impressively demonstrates this in his video:
This type of aim assistance apparently only occurs when the options “Precision” or “Focused” are selected in the aim assist options and it probably relates to the new “Deadzone” settings that you can use to improve your aim.
Just in May, the world champion claimed that the aim assist had been nerfed. Apparently, there are indeed changes that now make this option even stronger.
Is the aim assist too strong now?
This is the consequence: In his video, JGOD shows that this strong aim assist even helps in situations where you cannot see your opponent fully.
His partner, with whom he tests, is standing behind a low wall. Only his head is visible. But that is enough to trigger the new assist and slow the movement at the point where the body is behind the wall.
This no longer works when the opponent is completely covered and therefore cannot shoot anymore. However, the slowing of movement indicates where an opponent has been and allows for very easy kills.
JGOD claims that this feature rewards players who have “no aim.” He thinks it shouldn’t work this way and hopes to alert the developers to fix it.
If you prefer to improve your targeting ability without tech support, here are some tips:
- The strongest attachments for better targeting
- Aim training from the expert for the multiplayer of Modern Warfare
- Aim training from the expert for Warzone
Here’s the catch: The feature only works when the player moves the camera with their analog stick themselves. Not when another player walks through the screen.
Furthermore, the option prevents the use of “Standard” aim assist. This turns the character during movement when an enemy is in the crosshairs. But this no longer works with the “Focused” setting.
However, some users on YouTube claim that this feature is even stronger. They observe that the crosshairs follow enemies moving through the screen when they have their weapon mounted – basically a kind of “aimbot-light.”
“This is exactly what PC players are complaining about”
Even for controller players like JGOD or his viewers, the current aim assist feels too strong. Since Modern Warfare and Warzone both offer crossplay between PC, PS4, and Xbox One, it can happen that controller players on consoles face off against mouse players on PC.
This is a topic where even the expert says: “This is exactly what PC players are complaining about.” Generally, the mouse is considered the stronger, more precise input device. However, there are always disputes among players about whether the aim assist on controllers is unfair. Recently, the famous Twitch streamer DrDisrespect tested this himself.
With this strength, JGOD is sure it would be unfair and “on par with Fortnite.” Recently, cheaters on PC have caused players on PS4 to disable crossplay. Perhaps now the buff for aim assist will lead to PC players no longer wanting to crossplay with consoles.
