What is Crossplay and how does it work? Crossplay in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare means that you can play together with players on other platforms where the game is available.
In a match, both PC players and players on PS 4 and Xbox One can compete with and against each other.
Crossplay works for all multiplayer modes, but not for ranked matches or tournaments. Additionally, the campaign of Modern Warfare remains a single-player mode.
How to enable and disable Crossplay: The option is enabled by default in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. You will find the option in the game settings under “Account” and then in the top option for “Crossplay.” When Crossplay is enabled, players from any platform are included in your search for a multiplayer lobby.

How to play with friends: If you want to play with friends on other platforms, you need an account for Call of Duty.
If you don’t have an account yet, you can create one on the official Call of Duty website. Simply log in there with the Activision account you created when starting Modern Warfare.
Through the account, you can then create groups across platforms. Go to the Social menu in Modern Warfare and select friends using the “Activision” category.
How is balance maintained? Activision has thought of several ways to make Crossplay fair in Modern Warfare:
- If you play solo with a mouse and keyboard (regardless of whether on PC, Xbox One, or PS4), you will only encounter other players with a mouse and keyboard in the lobby.
- Similarly, you will only have controller players if you play with a controller.
- If you are in a lobby with friends using mixed input devices, you will also enter mixed lobbies – playing with a controller against mouse and keyboard.
This ensures that no one invites friends who can wipe out all opponents with their input device because they are playing with different devices. At the same time, the matches are fairer.
What are the advantages? Just the ability to play with friends regardless of the platform is already a great change. However, Crossplay offers even more significant advantages:
- Matchmaking should be significantly faster, as lobbies can consist of players from all platforms
- With Cross-Save, progress can be transferred from one platform to another without loss
What does Cross-Save mean? Modern Warfare gives you the ability to carry your progress from Modern Warfare to any platform through the CoD account.
So if you’re playing on PC at home but also have a version for PS4 and take it with you on the go, you can simply continue with your save files.
