As gained, so lost. Numerous Horde players exploited a bug in World of Warcraft. This now leads to account penalties.
Horde players discovered a significant error in Patch 8.1 Tides of Vengeance. While battling the world boss “Ivus the Forest Lord”, who appears at Darkshore, a bug occurred. As a result, numerous players were able to loot a lot of items that they weren’t supposed to have.
What happened? When Patch 8.1 went live in WoW a week ago, the Horde could immediately defeat the world boss “Ivus the Forest Lord”. However, this boss had no “loot lockout”. This meant that players could repeatedly kill the boss for a chance at loot. Since Ivus drops three strong items per class, some of which can also be upgraded, some players had a significant advantage.
What penalties are there? Blizzard has since fixed the issue and is taking action against the players who exploited this error. Not only will the looted items be taken away from them, but also the Titan Residuum obtained from the loot, which can be used to buy powerful items. Additionally, the corresponding account will be suspended for a while, depending on the severity and number of repetitions. Those who exploited this bug probably won’t be able to play WoW in the coming days.
Players find treatment unfair: The affected and apparently some uninvolved players find Blizzard’s actions questionable. After all, according to their statements, it is the developers’ fault that the bug even exists.
Players should at most have their items taken away, but no further penalties should be imposed. On the other hand, a large part of the players finds the penalties appropriate. After all, everyone should be aware that such loot behavior can only be a mistake.
What do you think of this incident? Do you find the penalties justified? Or is the fault clearly with Blizzard and the players are just victims?
