On Steam, a legendary role-playing game based on Dungeons & Dragons has been modernized with a relaunch. Not only does a legendary developer lead the charge, but also old flaws are said to no longer be a problem.
What kind of game is this? The Temple of Elemental Evil is a turn-based RPG from 2003, known for its very accurate implementation of the D&D 3.5 rule set. Publisher SNEG has now re-released the game so that it runs on modern PCs after many technical issues.
The relaunch focuses on compatibility and over 1,000 bug fixes rather than new content. The goal was to preserve the classic while making it stable on current systems without fan patches and mods. They also drew on insights from the modding community, to whom they explicitly thanked on the Steam page.
Behind the game is also the studio Troika Games, founded by three former lead developers of Fallout (Tim Cain, Leonard Boyarsky, and Jason Anderson). Although Troika was known for very good but technically unstable games, many RPG fans appreciated this mix of innovative ambition.
Therefore, the game today is a cult classic not only because of its D&D implementation but also as part of the Fallout developer history, experiencing a revival through the relaunch.

Classic, turn-based role-playing game in the Greyhawk setting
What can you expect in the game? The story begins when a demonic high priestess founds a cult that aimed to explore the purest form of evil. From a temple near the village of Hommlet, her followers soon subjugated the entire region until allied armies defeated them in a fierce war, destroyed the temple, and imprisoned the leaders.
But many years later, rumors arise of dark powers gathering in the ruins of the temple. And this is the beginning of your journey into the world of Greyhawk, which is considered the original setting of Dungeons & Dragons and was created by D&D co-creator Gary Gygax.
The game is supposed to offer you multiple story paths and endings, as well as 5 playable characters and 3 companions that you can gather in your party and customize with skills, talents, and spells.
You can currently get the game on Steam for €8.77 in an introductory offer until December 24, 2025. After that, it will cost €9.75.
